Computer Lab — Week 2 Computational Statics and Dynamics 6522ENG
A) Lab Tasks
• Carry out example ’2.2.1 1D Rod – Fixed Displacement’ as outlined in the lab notes. In addition to the lab notes, a video is provided at L@G.
• Determine additionally the stress σx and strain εx in the element. This is not a default output and must be selected:
Under Jobs : Jobs select New → Structural. In ”Run Job”, press Job Results and select the required Available Element Tensors (’Stress’ and ’Total Strain’)
• Carry out example ’2.2.2 1D Rod – Fixed Point Load’ as outlined in the lab notes. In addition to the lab notes, a video is provided at L@G.
• Determine additionally the stress σx and strain εx in the element. • Carry out example ’2.2.3 1D Rod – Multiple Loadcases’ as outlined in the
lab notes. In addition to the lab notes, a video is provided at L@G.
B) Additional Tasks Related to Lecture
• Calculate for example ’2.2.1’ and ’2.2.2’ the analytical solution for the stress and strain based on Hooke’s law and compare with the results obtained in the computer lab.
• Repeat example ’2.2.1’ and ’2.2.2’ with two elements (each of the both element has now the length L′ = 0.5). Extract from the results the dis- placement, stress and strain at the middle and right-hand node.
• Calculate example ’2.2.1’ and ’2.2.2’ based on the equations provided in the lecture (week 2 and 3) and calculate the displacements at the middle and right-hand node as a function of E, L′, A, F0, u0. Simplify these results to the numerical values and compare with the results obtained in the computer lab.
C) Report
• Submit till 15th August a group report by email to [email protected]. • The file format should be PDF and no more than 3 pages. • Name all the 5 group members at the beginning of the report and state
the course code.
