Unit 1 Assignment:
For this Assignment, you will write your Educational Goal statement. Summarizing your educational goals is the first step to building your portfolio. The goals you set for yourself now will build the foundation for your portfolio, as well as provide information to the evaluators about where you intend to go with your education and, often, your career.
Your first step toward achieving a goal is actually setting the goal. You obviously have a goal to complete a college degree or you would not be taking this course. Clear, specific vision of your goals will help define a course and direction. When setting your educational goals, you might want to answer these questions clearly:
● Why did you decide to take this course? ● What are you interested in learning about and why? ● What events occurred that triggered your decision to further your education?
Once you have identified your short- and long-term goals, you will be ready to write your Educational Goal Statement, which is the first component of your portfolio. Your Educational Goal Statement will allow you to identify the direction you will take with your education and potentially your career.
Assignment Instructions:
Now, it is your turn to develop a personal Educational Goal Statement that will be included in your portfolio. Think about why you started on this journey. What made you decide to take this course? Why did you decide to go back to school? Are you trying to be a role model for your children? Do you want to earn your degree to finish what you started years ago? Perhaps you want to advance in your field, and the only way to do that is to earn your degree.
Identify the short- and long-term goals that relate to your education. Refer to the Assignment Rubric located in the EL203 Rubrics folder in Doc Sharing to understand how you will earn points for this Assignment. Once you have completed the assignment, submit your educational goal statement to your instructor for review and grading.
Submit Your Assignment
Put your Assignment in a Word document. Save it in a location and with a name that you will remember. When you are ready to submit it, go to the Dropbox and complete the steps below:
● Click the link that says Submit an Assignment. ● In the Submit to Basket menu, select Unit 1: Assignment Dropbox. ● Click the Add Attachments button. ● Follow the steps listed to attach your Word document. ● You should revisit the Dropbox to view any helpful feedback your instructor has left for
you.

Make sure that you save a copy of your Assignment.
Important Note: Once your instructor has graded your Educational Goal Statement and you have revised it (if necessary), you will be ready to enter it into the Portfolio Development and Assessment System (PDAS). By the end of Unit 1, you should have received an Account Creation/Invitation via student email to with detailed directions of how to log-in for the first time. Make sure you are able to log-in as soon as possible! For any issues accessing the PDAS, please reach out to your Assessment Specialists via email at: [email protected], or by phone at: 855-791-7106. Upon logging in, you will be able to copy and paste the contents of your Educational Goal Statement directly into the text box of the system. You will want to check the formatting of your work after you copy and paste it to make sure that the faculty evaluators will be able to read it. (Watch the Unit 3 Video for instructions on how to properly copy and paste content from a Word document into the PDAS).
You are required to use the PDAS as you complete your portfolio components in this course. You will notice an activity in many of the units instructing you to enter a specific component into the system. Make sure you do this. It will save you time and effort later!
