[Great Works of Literature] Compare and Comparison Essay based on Odyssey and Iliad.
Looking ahead to your essay, here are some thoughts: In the Iliad, Book XXIII, Patroclus appears to Achilles in a dream. Could his shade be compared to the shades in the Underworld in Book XI of the Odyssey? In Book II of the Iliad, Zeus sends a dream to Agamemnon. In Book XVIIII of the Odyssey Penelope tells Odysseus, now disguised now as a beggar, her dream. Could these dreams be compared and contrasted in a small essay? For that matter, we again visit the shades in Book XXXIII of the Odyssey when the slain suitors arrive there. Can any or all of the shades mentioned be compared and contrasted?
On prophets: We notice Chryse’s prophecies in Book I and II of the Iliad. In Book XI of the Odyssey often called The Book of the Dead we encounter the most famous prophet of all, Tiresias. Can these two very important seers be compared and contrasted?
