HRMN 495

Professor Winegardner

July 27, 2015

PAC needs to undertake some strategic measures that will guarantee success of the company. Analysis is useful tool that has been widely used to identify one’s Strengths in terms of the talents and abilities currently in the company and their Weaknesses. Additionally, it is used in identifying both the Opportunities open to the market niche and threats such as the competition and technological change. The purpose of this paper is to summarize the SWOT analysis of PAC Company and develop the action plan to curb the challenges in the company. It will also describe the risks associated with lack of implementation of the action plans and explore the significance of the strategic and administrative role of Human Resources. It depicts the assets needed for the change. Finally, it will identify the resources required for the transformation in terms of people, time, money and support from the top

PAC Company is a manufacturing firm that is based in a mid-sized city in the upper Midwest. Additionally, PAC manufactures premium Forte components for the computer industry. The success of company demands high qualified employees as exemplified by their CEO, who is a talented young engineer. He, therefore, proves to be a good idea maker and designer of the specialty components patented by him which is the great contributor to the success of the company. As the CEO, he makes an excellent strategic decision towards the goals of the company so as to act as the roadmap towards success and champion the capability of employees based on strategy. The company recruits qualified employees with the required experience. It is therefore demonstrating great strength in the management as the qualification, decisions, and the experience proves them to be strategic planners. The supervisors undergo management trainee programs to ensure that they perform their tasks with great competencies. The technical staff is qualified as exemplified by the CAD designers and floor workers.

Major changes that need to take place at the company so as to increase its functionality is allowing for certain changes to take place at the recruitment subdivision. This move will assist in identifying the best persons for the jobs advertised in the company. Secondly, there is need to change the compensation plan. It has been observed that most of the workers are underpaid. As a result, it has affected their productivity and made them to lose morale for the jobs they are doing. Lastly, the HR department must engage with the necessary stakeholders including the employees to identify what they need in order to enhance their productivity. Further, the HR must try as swiftly as possible to improve the competitive4 culture in the company.

High levels of competency have been experienced in the company in the recent years. However, it experiences some challenges that are part of the weaknesses. The organization has gone through a series of complicated periods of employee unrest. In fact, most of them complained of deprived management, unpredictably obligatory policies and unmerited practices concerning job changes and movement of the workforce within the organization. The hiring freeze despite being made to meet the objectives and controlling costs, it has been a significant challenge to the company. For one to qualify for the bonus plan it was required of him/her to have annual performance goals but Harris does not involve people but rather set goals for them. They, therefore, feel that they have been oppressed and have resulted in hard feelings and perceived inequity among people.PAC had many requisites for employees’ compensation claims particularly carpal tunnel syndrome claims. The company needs to address the causes of the high preference to the disease. There is a need to check every workstation in the organization and either approve or recommend ergonomic changes. It also appears that some employees can claim for compensation despite that their injuries did not incur in the workplace. Development of an elaborate database to track the injured might help with trying to curb the problem (Bensoussan, 2008).

Application of SWOT analysis describes that the company has strengths in management and leadership despite some ironing needed on fairness. It has a broad range of talent as it acquires the best through best recruitment practices and allows human resource development through training (States, 2008). Despite these strengths, there are some weaknesses in the management such that some managers are making their decisions alone without the involvement of other employees. There is a threat in that the people respond slow to changes and are subject to complaining during changes.

PAC Company has been trying to remain on the move and remain focused. Therefore, it needs to perform the action plans given. Proper accounting practices will ensure that there is accountability of the company’s funds. To all bonus paid to the employee, accounting must be done by the compensation and benefits department. Therefore, this must go hand in hand with accounting of the last two months sales by the marketing departments so as to actually match the sales with the labor costs. Since the economy of America has been registering less growth, the sales of the company have been affected, and, therefore the labor costs need to be reduced by 10%. Staffing expenses should be reduced, and overall production cost should be reduced so as to be able to sustain the business. As there is confusion between a vacation and sick leave change, it should be avoided such that a policy should be developed by the compensation manager so as to draw a clear difference between the two. Employee training is critical, and, therefore, the manager should be convinced of the need not to scrap it out for employee development. Development of policies to curb the high number of compensation on injuries should be done to reduce the operation cost, and this should be done by the safety and risk management manager and should take approximately three days. The benefits and compensation of the employees should be kept low to reduce costs (In Wright, 2011).

Metrics of measurements have been known to include determination of the critical outcomes. The factors that are determined include efficiency, customer contentment and worker turnover. It will also include the analysis of the financial indicators such as costs, revenue, and safety related data. Also, it compares the resources produced versus the productivity so as to determine effectiveness. The quality of the product over its lifecycle helps to evaluate the continuous improvement of the whole process. To achieve this, there is need to establish a data team that will be intelligent enough to collect the data on frequencies that can be monthly, weekly or yearly. After the data has been collected it is analyzed and the collective changes to be made are proposed. The proposed ideas are executed, and the results are monitored. If the results are positive, they are incorporated in the company policies.

There are several unfair outcomes that are likely to arise if the company does not implement the suggested changes. First, there will be lowered productivity as a result of workers loss of morale. Additionally, it is expected that most of the individuals will start looking for greener pastures if the compensation offered is not appealing. Lack of team spirit might move the company to a state where it would be difficult to achieve company’s objectives. Further, it is expected that most of the company’s progress will be derailed.

However, implementation of these changes will be a major step towards realizing the full potential of the company. The required resources for the implementation will be the team that is cooperative and willing HR department. The significance of the roles of an HR is that they can make things to be done well. Further, they are capable of determining the direction that a company takes in terms of success and well trained van equipped employees.

One of the factors that need to be considered is the performance of the workers in general. For instance, the risks of not performing the tasks as given are that the company will suffer bad reputation and hence lose employees to its competitors. The bad reputation will also make it loose sales as customers feel better when associated with the best performing company. By dealing with the sales and benefits, it is possible to identify loopholes and the reasons for low sales and high labor cost. By so doing, the sales revenues are matched with the labor costs. By not dealing with safety and risk policies it will end up with high compensation and health insurance costs on the company.

Human resources department plays an important role in a company for recruitment and selection of employees. It ensures diversified and merit-based recruitment. The human resources establish the payments to the employees and reward programs through job analysis. It ensures that the compensations are available to motivate creativity and hard work among employees. It promotes training and development of employees to ensure that they remain competitive with the growing technology. Training also allows career development of the employees involved. By establishing insurance health plans and productive environment, it ensures retention of employees and attraction of more competent employees to the company leading to the overall success of the company. It can get this funding from the nongovernmental organization and donors. Currently, the company has enough human resource it will utilize the workforce to implement the Determination of the human resource role in PAC Company has been made easier by the application of SWOT analysis. Though it is experiencing challenges such as the production of only one product and the drop inthe economy that is affecting its sales. It is, therefore, important for the company to adopt new methods and action plans given so as to be able to remain competitive and to retain its sales. The company should ensure continuous improvement of its product to remain competitive and diversify its products so as to curb the failure of one product. It should also provide well-established policies in terms of compensation and health insurance to reduce employee unrest. It should ensure that every employee does the jobs as required to reduce the errors found such as misrepresentation of sales and termination of an employee instead of leave.
