Downloading your lab answer sheet
Begin by downloading the Lab4_AnswerSheet.doc file where you will be recording your answers for this lab.
The file can be found in the Lab 4 link on Bb Learn. Click on the name of the file and make sure you choose
“Save As”. Save the file to the Desktop. You can now go to the desktop and open the file for editing.
Here are the questions and problems you are solving today. Work on each question and record the required
answers on the lab answer sheet. Remember to save frequently and when you are done and then submit your
lab answer sheet via Blackboard Learn.
Evaluating applications
The CNET website provides information to help you evaluate and compare both, hardware and software. Visit
the site http://www.cnet.com/ and answer the following questions on your answer sheet:
1. Click on the Download tab and then on the Windows link. Then under Popular Links click on the
Editor’s Picks link. What are the top 5 applications listed for Windows Software? Follow the same steps
to find out the top 5 applications listed for Mac Software, Android Apps, and iOS Apps.
2. Select an application category from the menu on the left. Choose one application (for either Windows or
Mac) that you do not already use and read the review. What is the name of the application and what is its
purpose? How do the editor’s and average user’s rating compare? What are the strengths and weaknesses
of the program?
Comparing Features in Mobile Operating Systems
Assume that you want to buy a new mobile device. To make a more informed decision you are going to
compare the features available on three mobile operating systems. You will use the following four criteria: Ease
of Use, App Availability, Connectivity Options (for example tethering and WifFi hotspots), and Security. Pick
three popular mobile OS, use the Web to research current features and standards for the mobile OSs you want to
compare and then complete the following table:

What’s your App?
What is your favorite smartphone or tablet App? Describe what the app does and why is your favorite app. How
often do you use the app in a typical day? Is this app available for multiple platforms (e.g. iOS, Android,
BlackBerry, Windows Phone)?
Uninstall or Delete?
Use Google to locate information on uninstalling software. Why is it important to use the uninstall process to
remove applications, as opposed to simply deleting the program file? What is the process to uninstall a program
in Windows 8? What is the process to uninstall a program in OS X Mavericks on a Mac? Use Google to find
the names of three uninstall programs. List the names of these programs on your answer sheet. Please do not
forget to include the URLs of the sites from which you obtained the information.
