Author Study-In this course you will read and be exposed to a wealth of children’s literature. For this aspect of the portfolio you will be given an author whom you will study. Your author study will include: a. Page 1. Biographical sketch of the author

A biographical sketch is a brief account of a person’s life; not as detailed or lengthy as a biography, a biographical sketch may highlight a few aspects of a person’s life that are especially telling. Like a good biography, a good biographical sketch makes the subject come to life, allowing the reader to see the subject as a three-dimensional character. Children's/Adolescent books written by the author with a synopsis of each book. c. **Pages 4-5. Discuss how the author uses literary elements in his or her books. Relate this information to the Lukens’ text and give examples from the author's books that relate to literary elements just as Lukens does in her text. For example on page 153, Lukens discusses how setting is described in Charlotte's Web. You may choose to show how your author uses tone or point of view, etc. You need to compare and contrast the books according to the author's way of pulling the reader into the book using the elements. **This is the most important part of the Author Study. d.
