In today’s society, the topic of crime and punishment is a compelling one because we feel the need to get inside the minds of criminals in an effort to understand why they break the law. We are inundated with crime and punishment themed shows on television, and as a result we are drawn to this subject because we feel like we have an active role to play in the process. It is human nature to want to understand why criminals do what they do, and we are captivated by even a brief peek into their lives. There are many examples of how the mind of a criminal can be influenced by their circumstances. Hunger, poverty, depression, stress, and mental issues are just a few of the factors that can drive a person to commit a crime. In this text we will examine some specific examples of crime and punishment, and we will explore how getting in the mind of a criminal can help us gain an understanding as to their motives.

2- People are not born criminals, they are a product of their environment, nature vs nurture.  Take Rosko. he was an educated man, but I think the fact that he had no job or money drove him mad, and the pawn broker insulted him by offering meager amount money for his pledges mad him feel like a low life individual and it hurt and angered him.  The environment he was in played a big role on the murders, the crowed at the tavern made him think that killing her was good for the community because in their eyes she was taking advantage of them by giving them little for the prized possessions.

It make us wonder how someone's thought process works as well as how they could perform such an action like breaking the law, murder, and rape.

4- Crime and Punishment are two different words with two different definitions, but they go hand in hand. Meaning whenever there is a crime a punishment will follow immediately. Regardless of example set up by the law, people still commit crime. The question that many ask  “what are the reasons why people commit murder?” It is known that people commit crimes for various reasons, such as love and family, social factors, economic and cultural reasons. All these factors have negative impact on the individuals and trigger them to be involved in criminal activities.

Professor discussion : Here's a creative assignment for a change: Read "The Call" by Kathy Boudin in our INFO tab, and write a similar poem in which you imagine yourself in prison. Try to include as many sensory details as Boudin does: sight, sound, smell, touch, taste.
