After reading the chapters, do you think “abstinence only” programs work? Why or why not? What are some of the challenges of preventing teen pregnancy or the transmission of sexually transmitted infections among young adults? Please keep this discussion civil.

I believe abstinence programs don't really work for the majority of people. It also works less as people get older. I think this is because of many things, largely from the media, social media and peer pressure. Almost every movie or TV show has some form of sexual activity or romance, and no matter how much one can think media doesn't effect them it does. It can even be in the form of unconsciousness so there is a good chance they will not realize it. Like most of the class said the trend these days Is the belief that sex is cool and everyone does it and these days people follow trends more than before. I guess everyone wants to feel apart of something or to be accepted. I believe there is not enough positive role models. You do not really hear people these days in the media saying it is better to wait on sex and talking about how much it can change your life, and the talk with your parents about the birds and bees is not so common any longer. Also many don't like the use of contraceptive devices as it "reduces the pleasure" or in the heat of the moment that isn't highly thought of for many, that is what leads to some of the teen pregnancies and STI's
