Literature Review
Milestone One: Topic Selection
The general topic I intend to pursue is the Personality Disorders. Personality disorders help assess what services will help the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) know if the parent/s have a personality disorder and to help DCFS parent/s overcome the parental deficiencies that brought their family to the attention of the department.
One reason I chose this subject is because of a mother on my case load at work. The first thought with clients when they are acting bazar and out of their norm is the person is on drugs. However this particular mother definitely has some type of disorder. The behaviors she displays after being off drugs for an extended period of time has not gotten any better. This tells me there is more going on with this mother than her being a drug addict.
The Myers & Briggs Foundation (2015) state that personality is qualitative and more difficult to measure. Because of this the Myers & Briggs Foundation (2015) “psychological instruments cannot have the same consistency you would expect from, say, a ruler, (para. 2). However there are certain tests through the MBTI that can be used to get reliability, there is also the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory that can be used to test a person’s personality.
