Quantitative

Research

Quantitative research focuses on specific behaviors that can be easily quantified. In other words, this method uses a “numerical” and statistical approach to research. If researchers use this approach to find out the number of adults over 40 who use Instagram, they would take surveys and tally the numbers.

Qualitative

Research

Qualitative research focuses on people behaving in natural settings and describing their world in their own words. In other words, if researchers wanted to qualify the question of how many adults over 40 use Instagram, they would not only survey for quantity. Researchers would ask more questions and consider variables that either contribute or discourage their use of Instagram.
