Get There Navigation Technologies: Technology Recommendation
Read the scenario to complete the assignment outlined in the course syllabus.
background
Get There Navigation Technologies (GTNT) has not kept pace with the many innovations in information technology. In fact, GTNT is a couple of generations behind in information technology. John Zillion has not been a proponent of information technology and has vigorously opposed the use of information technology in most applications of the business with the exception of the navigation systems it develops. Old-time department heads agree with Zillion and have minimal computer applications in their department.
current situation
GTNT has no sense of urgency to get things done—particularly in the implementation of new technology. “I’m too busy to even think about it,” “we do not need technology to do our jobs,” “we have gotten by for many years with the present way of doing things,” “why change now,” and “I am far too old to learn the computer” are just some of the excuses given in defiance of the use of technology.
Relevant to the situation facing the company is the fact that the Information Technology Department exists in name only. The department is understaffed and the department manager is ill-trained and only minimally qualified.
the challange
The task of building a viable Information Technology Department with a state-of-the-art system will be daunting. Nevertheless, it must be done. The new generation of information technology must be a fully integrated system from order entry to cash application. The major elements include the following:
· Ordering receipt from the customer
· Placement of orders for raw materials and work-in-process
· Production control and scheduling
GTNT has asked your team to provide recommendations for potential technologies they may use to improve their business process.
