Written Assignment Three: Extended Outline (Due Week 6)
In this assignment, you will complete an extended outline that provides a solid framework for your paper. A good outline is necessary for a thorough research paper. The overall assignment is worth 5% of your final course grade. Be sure to read the directions for Submitting the Assignment.
An extended outline is more detailed than a simple outline and less developed than a full rough draft. Your outline will show me that you are getting organized to write your final draft, that you have your main thesis and sub-thesis statements (or questions and sub-questions) ready in all sections, and that you have started writing a rough draft for your final paper in some of these sections.
Your extended outline will follow the same basic structure as your WA4: Final Paper. (Read WA4 now so that you can more fully understand the final paper for which you are writing this outline.) Your extended outline will include each of the following sections:
Title Page (Should have its own page)
Abstract Page (Should have its own page)
Body of Paper, including these four sections (2-3 pages long)
I. Introduction and Thesis Questions/Statement
II. Analysis Using Concepts/Theories
III. Application of Research
IV. Summary and Conclusions
References (Should have its own page)
These extended outlines will vary somewhat depending on the substructure of each section. I will be grading the content of the outline itself according to whether you:
· Show sufficient substructure under each section to indicate progress in that section. Be sure you have a title page, an abstract page (with some progress on the abstract itself), and a reference page (with APA references listed).
· Include full sentences (not just phrases) to explain main theses and sub-points or questions
· Meet the minimum page requirement of 2 – 3 pages in the body of the paper; this will show me that you are making significant process toward your draft.
I will also be grading your work according to the other categories in the Grading Rubric – be sure you read this before you begin. Don't forget your APA citations in the body of the paper and to properly format your APA references!
