Description of the problems

The two major workplace issues to be discussed in this paper include discrimination and safety within the workplace. Discrimination refers to a situation in which some employees within an organization are highly favoured in comparison to others. For instance, some organizations may favour particular group of people for each and every kind of leadership position at the extent of depriving others this chance even though they may be qualified for the position. Discrimination comes in various ways; in some scenarios it may be viewed from the point of using the organization’s resources whereby some employees may not be allowed to use some resources as a result of discrimination. The issue of discrimination needs to be addressed from the fact that an organization may end up losing potential employees as a result of discrimination. Discrimination is normally brought as a result of having a diversity of employees within a workplace. Currently, researches conducted in different organizations have shown that organizations with a higher diversity of employees will always have great ideas for creativity and also innovation. From the fact that discrimination results into loss of potential employees, this clearly shows that the level of creativity and innovation with as well decrease and therefore making this issue very sensitive and thus needs to be addressed (Acocella, 2007).

The second major problem that needs to be addressed is safety from the fact that organizations deal with various tools and equipment which may result into harmful implications on the employees. Safety may also be looked into in different angles; for instance there is the physical safety in which the employer should ensure each employee is protected against any risk that may end up resulting into harmful effects. Emotional safety is also important and the employee should ensure this by providing a stress free environment for working. Safety is a very important issue to be addressed from the fact that human life is very important. A human life once lost can never be retrieved since no one has the capability of giving another life. This makes this problem very necessary to be addressed.

Solutions for the problems to be implemented

Strategies need to be implemented to address the issues above. For the case of discrimination, various steps need to be applied to make sure the problem is addressed. The employers needs to sit and discuss deeply with an experienced business attorney who will help in the formulation of discrimination policies for the workplace. The policies should be in line with the discrimination laws for best results. It is from this place that the employer can engage the managers for the purpose of reviewing the discrimination policy manual. Employees should then be engaged after which they should undergo training concerning discrimination in workplaces. Having the employees working together and also performing tasks together may as well be a way of eliminating discrimination. There should also be a channel for reporting those found engaging in discrimination. With all this in place, discrimination should be a forgotten issue within a workplace.

To ensure safety in a workplace, the employer needs to assess the risks in which the employees are exposed to. Safety policies and procedures need to be formulated in accordance to the risks associated with the workplace. A plan for action in case of any emergency should also be created to ensure that the organization can act responsibly and save lives when they take place. Outsiders should also be monitored closely to eliminate any form of unwanted activities regarding to safety they may bring. Lastly, open communication should be encouraged to ensure all employees are able communicate in case of detection of unordinary activities that may tamper with their safety.

5 criteria used to measure the worth of each alternative mentioned above

The first criterion is referred to as importance to measure and also to report. The criteria stipulates that there should be an evidence that clearly offers support the solutions are actually working. For instance, the health outcome should clearly show that there is safety health measures within the workplace.

The next criterion involves scientific acceptability of all the alternatives given above. There should be a scientific evidence that shows the methods designed above are able to offer best solutions for the two problems within the workplace. Scientific evidences are normally obtained from a number of statistical observations through experiments and surveys after which the analyses are given. It is from this analyses we obtain conclusions concerning the alternatives designed to curb all the problems experienced within this organization (Wood, 2004).

The third criterions that can be used to determine the worth of the alternatives stated above is known as feasibility which is defined as the extent to which the alternatives stated above can be implemented and produce a positive performance measurement in case the alternatives are reviewed under performance management. In case this goes positive with the performance of the organization, the worth is therefore determined.

The fourth criterion is based on usability and use which refers to that potential extent in which various people within the workplace can certify that the alternatives are worth. In this case, employees as well as the customers of the organization should acknowledge that the alternatives stipulated have been able to curb those two problems.

The last criterion is based on their comparison to competing factors. The related or competing measures The alternatives provided in this case should be better than their competing factors; in others words, they should have a competing advantage against other competing measures (Stone, 2005).

How to conduct the research needed to determine the recommended alternative to the employee

To come up with the best research, surveys and experiments and also observations need to be conducted on various organizations of the same calibre. With this, enough data will be available to come up with a conclusion on the best alternatives that the employer may use for the entire organization.
