Frequency Distributions

Modular Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this module, the student will be able to satisfy the following outcomes:

•Case

◦Describe the information provided by the Standard Deviation.

◦Use the Standard Deviation to calculate the percentage of occurrence of a variable either above or below a particular value.

◦Describe a normal distribution as evidenced by a bell-shaped curve.

◦Prepare a distribution table from a set of data.

◦Calculate the variance.

•SLP

◦Describe a normal distribution as evidenced by a bell-shaped curve.

◦Calculate the Standard Deviation.

◦Calculate the variance.

◦Prepare a distribution table from a set of data.

•Discussion

◦Prepare a distribution chart from a set of data.

Module Overview

The frequency distribution is one of the most useful statistical tools available.

This tool is most useful when we are concerned about the percentage of time a value will be higher than or lower than a certain value. This module also introduces us to the Standard Deviation as an essential tool in applying the frequency distribution.
