For this Discussion Board you are going to research a recent environmental incident that occurred locally. It is important to find a subject that you are interested in as you will be using this environmental incident throughout the course. In your discussion post, you need to provide a link to your reference and identify what your role as project manager will be (government agency employee, private company employee). Please be as specific as possible. Your instructor will provide feedback on your selection and give approval before you start any assignments. Required criteria for your selected incident include the following:  • You must have a reference for the incident (newspaper article, journal, etc.);  • Must be local to your state; (Texas) • Must be a recent environmental incident; (2014-2015) Possible topics:  A. Chemicals  Oil spill to land  Hazardous material spill from a truck

B. Water Contamination  Oil spill to water  Fish turning up dead in a body of water  Power plant releasing ash

C. General Environmental  Honey bees dying off  Plant explosion  Cancer clusters

Why is the scope an important part of project management? What does the scope add to the project that we do not know yet? Whether you are a consultant working for a Forbes100 client or a program manager working for a leading environmental action group, balancing the goals of the organization and environmental protection are never easy. There is never enough money to solve all existing problems, so priorities must be set. How can a balance be found between the goals of the organization and the needs of the environment? As an employee in an organization, how can you affect the balance? As a member of the general public, can you affect that balance? How? When responding to your classmates, think about whether these options change your attitude about where you might want to be employed or other changes you might want to consider for yourself.
