IT Project Management
Question 1: The role of KPIs (Focused Discussion)
· THE IT PROJECT
Alana Davis runs a garment boutique in Coopers Town, Bahamas. The boutique is named as ‘Alana’s Clothes Line’. The boutique has been a hit among the local people of the city and the adjoining suburbs and had encouraged Alana to open two more branches: One in the suburbs and another one in Marsh Harbor. Till date, Alana had been managing all the records of the customer data and those about her business, manually. However, Alana has been offered an available business spot at Nassau, and she plans to take up the opportunity and open yet another branch over there. As Nassau is the capital of the country, Alana can positively take up the risk, as a branch of her cloth line in Nassau is sure to grab attention from the public, which will be shortly transformed in to fame and money.
Now, Alana plans to have all her records maintained by computers as manual recording of data from all the three stores would not be possible any more. Alana also plans to create an official website of her business, where she will be able to display her latest creations. Interested customers will b able to buy her collections both from her stores and her web portal.
The plan is to involve a team of IT professionals who will install the required network of computers and the relevant software, that Alana’s Clothes Line will use, in order computerize the old records and maintain the new ones. The software will also be used by Alana and his employees to maintain the stock of their products, to ship products from one shop to another. When the official website will be used to receive orders from customers and ship the products to their respective addresses. The payment mode will also be online.
The two KPI s associated with this project would be time and quality of services (Brewer and Dittman, 2013). As the business unit provides services to their customers, their quality of service should be of top notch, and this cannot be provided by a faulty computer system (Chemuturi, 2013). The installation should also be completed in time, before Alana opens her third shop (Dalcher and Brodie, 2007).
