SUBMISSION FORMAT: PowerPoint and Group Presentation

Questions and Objectives:

1. Select an industry for the Harvard Business School list of industries at

http://hbswk.hbs.edu/industries/ and have it approved by your professor via discussion board

post.

2. Create a PowerPoint for your group presentation and apply good design techniques (COMP106

would have covered this).

3. Discuss what the industry does and THREE companies that lead in this industry. Discuss how

each obtained their leadership role.

4. Discuss innovation that is happening or has happened in this industry and how it affects us as

consumers and/or members of society.

5. Discuss with the class one piece of news that is happening in this industry and how it affects

industry competition. This item should be different than the innovation topic above.

6. Include at least THREE sources of research on the final slide of your presentation.

7. Deliver your presentation on the due date as provided by your professor. Those away will not

obtain a mark for delivery of presentation. Those ill will require a doctor’s note and will present

at an alternate time arranged with professor. All member should dress professionally and have

a speaking part in the presentation.

8. Refer to Rubric for grading specifics.

Self and Peer Evaluations:

Each student must complete a self and peer evaluation form individually. Use the team

evaluation form provided. Complete form and upload into Dropbox. You will rate each

member, including yourself, on their/your ability to work in a team. Evaluations must be

submitted within 24 hours of case due date, no late submissions permitted. Failure to

submit means no grade for this portion of the assignment.

GRADING RUBRIC

Criteria Marks

PowerPoint Design:

Light text on dark backgrounds or dark text on light backgrounds. Slide transitions are applied. As taught in

COMP106.

Sounds, animations, colours do not distract audience. Animations and sound may or may not be used (left up

to group).

Grammar and Spelling:

Marks will be deducted for grammar and spelling errors or incomprehensible sentences.

Title Slide includes title and all group members names spelled correctly.

References:

APA References slide at end of slide show. APA formatting applied. At least THREE references were used. NO

WIKIPEDIA permitted as a source.

Three companies that are leaders within ONE specific industry are discussed. Topic is how they became the

leaders of this industry.

Innovation(s) that are happening in this industry are discussed.

This piece of information is something in the news that is different from the innovation discussed above. The

news should pertain to the industry as a whole, but may be based more on one company and if so, the group

should show evidence of how this news relates to the industry.

Delivery:

Each group member has taken on a speaking role.

Each group member is dressed professionally.

There is a clear introduction and closing to the presentation.

The group appears professional – there is evidence of practice, rehearsal, and everyone knows each other’s

parts in the even someone is ill or forgets what to say.

Professionalism:

Each student will be evaluated on their professionalism as an audience member. This means listening quietly

while each group presents. Arriving on time for class and staying throughout all presentations. It is deemed

rather unprofessional to arrive late, leave early, or otherwise interrupt other people’s presentations.

Team Peer Evaluation:

Each student obtains an evaluation for their contributions to the team goals. Marks may vary. Students who do

not submit a team peer evaluation to the eCentennial drop box within 24 hours of the case due date receive

NO marks for this component regardless of how their team members rate them.
