Choose A or B: A. Respond to two of the following prompts (500 words apiece): i. Taking the given primary source as a guide, visually interpret the Dionysian procession on the Florence Cup. ii. Undertake an Aristotelian analysis of Recognition in Euripides's Bacchae. iii. How might we understand the very distinct characterizations of Dionysus in Bacchae and Frogs as portraits of the same god? B. Respond to the following prompt (1000 words): Undertake a close reading of a choral passage from either Bacchae or Oedipus and address how the chorus’s language makes it act as what Schlegel calls an “ideal spectator.” Notes: Respond to either A or B. If you go with A, provide a minimum of 500 words for each essay. If you go with B make sure the essay is a least 1000 words long. We have been preparing for these essays from our first class. Check your notes, review, ask questions and, as always, feel free to come see me in my office. Working together in study groups can be especially productive. Be sure, however, that the ideas and the language you use to express them are your own. Make sure to check the Rubric for this assignment. This is my best attempt to express what is expected in these essays. Nevertheless, this document will surely raise questions, so we shall spend some time on Wednesday of Week Five, discussing it. i will upload an example of a paper how it looks like, but it is not very good example.
