Intro to non profits hw
You have graduated from the Georgia State University. You have landed the perfect job working as a project manager for the Turner Foundation. Mr. Turner comes to you one day and asks you what your favorite nonprofit organization is. He says that he will give 1 million dollars in your name to that organization if you can provide him with the following information:
(1) Name of the nonprofit organization and its principal officer.
(2) The provision of the Internal Revenue Code under which the organization
achieved its tax-exempt status.
(3) The reason why this organization is your favorite.
(4) The year of the most recent IRS Form 990 you could find that was filed by the
organization.
(5) The mission of the organization as stated on the organization’s IRS Form 990.
(6) From the organization’s IRS Form 990, a description of the accomplishments of
one of the three largest programs of the organization as measured by the amount of
expenses.
(7) The organization’s total revenue as stated on the organization’s IRS Form 990.
(8) The organization’s total expenses as stated on the organization’s IRS Form 990.
(9) Did the organization engage in direct or indirect campaign activities on behalf of or
in opposition to candidates for public office?
(10) The nonprofit organization’s total fundraising expenses as stated on the
organization’s IRS Form 990.
He wants your research done quietly without notifying the nonprofit organization. He also wants your memorandum to be no more than 1000 words. Fortunately, having taken PMAP 4411, you know that, except for question (3), you can get all of this information from the nonprofit organization’s most recent IRS Form 990 and that you might be able to find a copy of this form on the nonprofit organization’s website ,e.g. Atlanta Community Food Bank http://www.acfb.org/ , or at the Foundation Center’s website http://foundationcenter.org/findfunders/990finder/ or at the Guidestar website http://www2.guidestar.org/ .
