The Huffman Trucking Company has a large contingency of fleet operations. Managing that fleet of that size takes a large database to combine all the processes that support fleet maintenance. There are three main areas that their database uses to keep the fleet operational.
The first area is the parts inventory. This is where the mechanics will get the correct parts to fix the trucks. Parts inventory allows the company to not only count how many lug nuts they have, but also where and when the purchased was made. This area of the database also houses the vendor information who sells them the parts. Keeping track of the vendor information helps the company to know which vendors provide the best supply and quality parts. By tracking not only the Vendor ID but other attributes Huffman Trucking can quickly gain access to suppliers when needed. Parts inventory also includes the purchasing history for reference as well. The parts inventory is expanded to include tires; there is also space for the type of tire and the mileage lifecycle schedule for the tire here as well. One very important factor of this area of the database is that it includes a catalogue of all the parts. The parts catalogue shows the company all the parts data that is needed to properly supply each truck. The catalogue will give a description, display the manufacturer, and show the quantity that Huffman trucking has on hand.
The second area of the database they have is the vehicle inventory. This area will include the type of vehicle and all information that will be used to identify each vehicle independently. This area will have the maintenance record associated with each vehicle, including the tire maintenance and all the maintenance that was performed on each tire; it will also contain the service date, rotation schedule and even the disposal date.
The third area is the maintenance area. This area will have the descriptions of the maintenance operations that are carried out on the fleet. This area will also contain the actual work orders for each vehicle being serviced. Keeping track of the days that are between each service and the average hours that are required for the vehicles maintenance will allow easy tracking and improve the operation of the fleet vehicles.
All of these database areas work together to keep the fleet running smoothly. They reference each other to make sure all available parts are ready for the maintenance shop to minimize down time for the vehicles. By working together the different areas help the company to provide a better quality service for each vehicle.
