Art presentation!!!
Although each group’s presentation will be different based upon the chosen artist, the critical approach you choose, the reasoning behind your choice of images and sounds, and the method in which you create the visual timeline, there are guidelines that your group should follow in order to assure a smooth process. You are not bound to follow the steps shown below, but your group may want to follow a set of guidelines to assure that each person is responsible for a portion of the research and presentation. Below, I have created a set of steps that may help in group regulation.
. Choose an artist, artistic period, work of art, or group of works by an artist.
a. Choose the artist or artwork based upon interest as well as the critical approach.
b. In order to be as persuasive as possible in your presentation you will need to choose an artist
that an adequate amount of information can be found quickly and easily.
c. Your chosen artist does not have to be considered famous.
d. Find an artist that your group feels comfortable with as a whole.
. Choose a critical approach.
a. Once you have chosen an artist, you will need to choose one of the following approaches
-Ideological (political and structural hierarchy in art. All art is propaganda)
-Feminist (Based upon the oppression of groups. Including the struggle of women in art)
-Psychoanalytic (Delves into the life of the artist, and how this affects the artist’s work)
-Structuralism (Based upon the history of art and how your particular artist falls within it)
-Deconstruction (States that every image has its own life outside of the meaning of art)
b. Choose your approach based upon the groups interest, as well as comprehension
c. Someone in the group will need to read the information about the approach
d. Begin to break down the image based upon the chosen critical approach.
. Create the visual presentation to be published (This is the most critical step, but not the most difficult)
a. Once your position has been chosen and you have researched the artwork, begin compiling
imagery, important text or quotes, other works from the artist or other artists etc.
b. Create a file on at least two group member’s personal computers and everyone’s flash drives
c. This file should include all images and text needed for the presentation
d. Figure out a visual timeline so that your video will flow effectively.
e. Decide on the type of presentation your group will create. Will it be power point based,
performance, narrated or explained etc.
f. Sound must be included in your presentation. It will be necessary to choose the mood of your
presentation before you choose the sounds. (Don’t choose music that entices the audience to
sing or rap along unless it is an integral part of your presentation)
