Hunger games analysis
The Hunger Games
The Hunger games is set in Panem where there is a lot of inequality between the rich and poor and the wealth is only concentrated in the hands of the rich. Particularly the rich people especially those living in Capitol control the resources and this is mostly food. People in the poor districts do not even have enough food to eat while rich control the resources and therefore the poor survives by hunting. The story is about a little girl Katniss who notes that starvation is very common in district 12 and she needs to hunt illegally in woods that are beyond the borders of the district in order to support the family ADDIN EN.CITE <EndNote><Cite><Author>Suzanne Collins</Author><Year>2009</Year><DisplayText> (Collins, 2009)</DisplayText><record><ref-type name="Book">6</ref-type><contributors><authors><author>Suzanne Collins</author></authors></contributors><titles/><title>The Hunger Games, Volume 1</title><periodical/><dates><year>2009</year><pub-dates/></dates></record></Cite></EndNote> (Collins, 2009). The issue of integrity arises as she does not have an option and has to feed her family.
Hunger games as well presents the pain of suffering as an entertainment. The more the tributes seem to be suffering to them it means that the games become more entertaining and this means that it will have to continue. People come to watch tributes who are of course children fight and die. It is cruel that as children die people are happy and shouting. For example when Cato is dying people are happy and want him to die slowly and since it is the finale, the game makers want to deliver a prolonged suffering ADDIN EN.CITE <EndNote><Cite><Author>Collins</Author><Year>2012</Year><DisplayText> (Collins & Suzanne, 2012)</DisplayText><record><ref-type name="Book">6</ref-type><contributors><authors><author>Collins</author></authors></contributors><titles/><title>The Hunger Games: Movie Tie-in Edition</title><periodical/><dates><year>2012</year><pub-dates/></dates></record></Cite></EndNote> (Collins & Suzanne, 2012).
As people fight to death, it does not prove to be a good thing especially as people are unwilling. As much as it seen as just a game, the players are not willing since the game involves outwitting other by killing them. The rich people control the games and people are forced into the fights and fight to get food. Some people die in the process. When Katrina learns that her younger sister will be on the fights, she decides to step in for and she does so to defend her. She defends her family from the hunger and in this she shows that she can defend them even to death. She shows herself as a selfless person who is able to do even what others think it is impossible.
Nevertheless she fights for her life and this she does so that she can survive so that she can fend for her family. She falls in love with Peeta who also fights and wins all games. The game makers change the rules while they are still on the game something that is seen as lacking integrity and demands that there will be no winners and that only winner can be found. This demanded that Peeta and Katniss had to fight to death so that only one survivor will be found.
Even as the rules of the games needs to be followed, changing the rules while the going is ongoing is something that is at sounds malicious and that shows lack of integrity. The selfless fighters however due to their love which most people think is doomed and that will get them nowhere decide that they will not fight each other to death and opts to take poisoned berries so that they can both die. However the rules again change and they decide that they can have two winners ADDIN EN.CITE <EndNote><Cite><Author>Suzanne Collins</Author><Year>2011</Year><DisplayText> (Collins S. , The Hunger Games Trilogy, 2011)</DisplayText><record><ref-type name="Book">6</ref-type><contributors><authors><author>Suzanne Collins</author></authors></contributors><titles/><title>The Hunger Games Trilogy</title><periodical/><dates><year>2011</year><pub-dates/></dates></record></Cite></EndNote> (Collins S. , The Hunger Games Trilogy, 2011).
Hunger games therefore show a district that is, capitol that whose integrity values have been mutilated and a people who delight in the suffering of others. It shows what used to happen in Roman Empire as well as a district full of revenge. However people like Katniss show how one will survive in such a place and how one can give herself or himself fully including to death to save others. However those who make such sacrifices will not be punished to death but will have life.
