Need Statement- Forethought Ministries

Imagine being a small, helpless, hopeless child just wandering around the dirty- scary streets alone. No mom, no dad, no family, just strangers and a dark road ahead. According to Mercy Projects, 153 Million children worldwide have lost either one parent or both at an early age. According to Dictionary.com, an orphan is defined as, “a child who has lost both parents through death, or, less commonly, one parent or a child whose parents are dead” (2015). Forethought Ministries is an orphanage or a safe haven for orphaned children around the globe. It costs roughly $28 a month to house a child in one of our facilities. For less than a dollar a day, a child is supported in many aspects of their life. This funding includes general medical care, as well as food, schooling, and housing for a child. To break down the $28 monthly fee, our supporters are able to see exactly what they are doing in order to keep the child safe and loved. The need of Forethought Ministries is that there are children all over the world that need help and need a family. The solution is to give them that opportunity, love, hope, a chance, a future and most importantly, show them the love of Christ. Our mission that is seen through this “need” is to grow, build and expand so that children around the world are taken care of and are not left an orphan.

The “need” of Forethought Ministries is that children are orphaned all over the world, and have no hope for a future. The solution is simple: give these orphans a home, love and support. In order to get this need under control, steps have to be taken and funding needs to be put into place. First, money has to be obtained so that staff can be hired. We are going to need a substantial amount of capital, especially as the orphanage grows. Foreign or domestic support can help, but it is a good idea to look to other areas as well. One of the first steps in order to become a nonprofit orphanage is to become registered as a non-profit organization. Also, we would need to get registered in the country that we are building in. In this case, Nicaragua will be the place that we will need to get a license through. This step can be a long drawn out process, taking even a year to obtain. Next, a website needs to be made. Making a website ensures that everyone knows our goals, and purpose and enables people to sponsor the organization or make donations. We will need to designate a person to run the website and make sure that all emails and donations are taken care of. We will also need to get as many letters of support as possible, from local businesses, politicians, dignitaries…etc. On a legal aspect, we will need to hire a lawyer for the company. This lawyer will walk the company through the legal aspects that the organization will face. Forethought will also need to apply for many licenses and permits such as building permits. We will need to register the organization as a society (done through local Registrar of Societies). Forethought will have to hire construction agents, office administration (such as accountants and human resource staff), teachers and medical professionals. The first team that will need to be into place is construction staff. We will have to recruit volunteers to do some of the less complicated building work, but pay will be required for supplies, and some pay for our full time maintenance/ construction staff. All paid professionals will go through the application process first. If applicant is equipped for the job, they will be interviewed for the first time. They will have to make it through two interview sessions, a drug test and a background test in order to be hired. The volunteers will be treated like paid staff for the most part. They will only require one interview, however they will have to pass a drug test and background check before being worked. The orphanage will need to be built (the first one will be placed in Nicaragua). Funding for permits and licenses will need to be obtained. It is said that it should not cost more than 10,000-30,000 dollars for start up fees including all registrations and to be able to begin (without building). Next, we will need to find/hire staff for light medical care and education. We will need a fund for two medical leaders and two educational leaders. These four employees will be the only two paid staff members in this area, all other medical staff and educational staff will be on a volunteer basis until we can get funding for more full time employees. After all construction has been completed and all permits bought, a team of people will be hired to find and recruit the children that will become Forethought Ministry Children.

As a follow up to my expressed needs for donations for services including licenses, website, staff, medical care, food, housing, and education for the children, we have been able to successfully meet the needs of 15 children as our start up number. We are continuously growing and reaching out to the communities to recruit more children. We have hired 13 full time staff members for the time being, until we can grow the company. These members include the corporate staff members as well as the field staff; being medical, nutrition and educational staff to get us started. Upon obtaining licenses, we have spent $24,000 so far. This amount has covered every legal document, legal help as well as legal consultations. The website that we created is $70 a year. We have spent $11,000 on basic medical supplies and some antibiotics for mild sicknesses that the children may be admitted with or gain while in the orphanage. Food that has been bought in the first 3 months of start up (includes everything) has equaled to $8,000. This has fed all of the children, three meals a day plus snacks. This also includes extra nourishment supplements (such as vitamin drinks and malnutrition shakes). We have spent $13,000 on housing supplies. This includes blankets, furniture (Beds and dressers) pillows, clothes, etc. Churches, schools and other organizations have donated most of these supplies listed. A local school where our organization is located has donated all of our books and school supplies. We have spent $9,000 on the full time teacher; all other education helpers are volunteer staff for right now. In the first three months of our company being up and running, we have already touched so many children. With your help, we are able to make this possible. Thank you for your continued contribution and support during the start up of our company! You continue to save lives, and give sweet children a home!
