Journal 1- The Social theories

Our social lives is an aspect of life that I did not imagine could be studied using concepts that required intellectual connection of actions and patterns. Through the learning schemes provided for this course, I have realized that scholars have moved a notch higher, into characterizing human social behavior through social theories. I am capable of classifying various social behavior on the basis of a particular social theory or a sub-classification of any one of them. As a matter of fact, I feel that this knowledge broadens my perspective on how social behavior should be judged. Essentially, these theories have provisions that justify their application to even more extended aspects of human behavior and activity. I found it more appealing that even the simplest of actions we perform, say swallowing, which can actually be explained through a distinct social theory, are normal to everyone. This makes it even more applicable in my life and any other human, who is considered normal, within the confines of a contemporary society.

Journal 2- But Coffee is a drug right?

A drug may be defined as any substance that when taken changes the normal reasoning and performance of a person. According to me, coffee is one of these substances that changes human reasoning as well as their normal operations. Continuous consumption of coffee makes one be addicted to it and may even develop some health complications when they do not consume it. I came to that a regularly consumer of coffee may find it almost impossible to do without taking it. This explains the addictive nature of coffee which undisputedly makes it a drug. The second common feature of coffee I noticed is that it makes one perform some activities in an abnormal manner. For instance, I realized that consumption of coffee is associated to lack of sleep. Those who consume coffee are reportedly associated to night jobs which requires them to be awake late at night. According to me, this is an abnormal occurrence and definitely qualifies coffee as a drug.

Journal 4- Journal: Race and Ethnicity Perspectives – Getting Socially Specific

In the current world, I have realized that people of different race as well as different ethnic groups come together to perform various common activities. They are not necessarily discriminated based on their race or where they come from. I realized, it is a common occurrence for a person of a different race to freely interact and have the freedom of opinion whenever he is without being neglected or pinned down based on his skin color. One can freely socialize with people from different parts of the world and gain a lot without being singled out based on his locality. For instance, it came to my realization that majority of Chinese students have opted to advance their education in the western countries. The students are reportedly happier in the western countries than in their own country, China. The scenario makes me feel the western education is even more attractive to other students in china and they normally long to pursue their studies there. The same applies to western citizens who I realized for a long period of time considered Africa as the best tourist destination. They prefer visiting Africa during their holidays and be part of the attractive natural resources found there. Racial discrimination, to my realization, is almost a forgotten phenomenon. For instance, employers give more consideration to an employee’s qualifications and competence to perform a particular job. Employees are never considered for jobs based on their color and this makes it easier to interact without fear of discrimination.

Journal 5 l: Convergence of Sexuality, Gender, and Healthcare

Contemporary social systems are continuing to revolutionize into newer and more sophisticated systems that are becoming hard to understand. Despite these wave of events, I have realized that our social and ethical uprightness should always take precedence in our judgment. Aspect of sexuality, gender and healthcare have initiated a wave of mixed feelings and confusions on the most righteous and moral path to tread on. As I have learnt from this module, it is better to converge our sexual, gender-based and health-related perceptions towards a common front. Despite the differences we may exhibit in each of these aspects, it is of integral importance that we create a convergence, from which the society derives its unifying factor. As a result of this, I now believe that social differences are only aspects of variations in perspectives that can be compensated for when we converge in a common social aspect unique to every individual, like healthcare.

Journal 8: Empathize With the Enemy?

There are different reasons why people develop enmity with one another. This argument as to whether to empathize with the enemy is just ambiguous. According to me, an enemy is a human being just as other people and what make them different is divergence of understanding. They need to be comforted during their difficult time just as any other person. It came to my realization that an enemy should be given a different approach far from what they expect from us. This makes them have a sense of humor within themselves. According to me, any difficult time an enemy encounters is normally a chance to show them what we are capable of doing to them. Give an enemy the best treatment they have never received even from their own people. Such a treatment will make an enemy realize what you think of him and will not hesitate to give back the hospitality to you when you need it.
