AGENCY INTRODUCTION

The Administration on Aging is a social welfare agency operating in the United States of America for the well-being of aging population of the country. The basic objective of this agency is to ensure that the aging population of the country is living independently in American communities. The agency is working under the federal government of America. The older American act 1965 act is the code of conduct being followed by this agency. The people more than 60 years are the target population of agency. Moreover agency is also working for the health care facilities for the aging population (Health and Services 2008).

The agency operates in all areas of the country and a big part of the adult population is enjoying the services. The population of America is most diverse population all over the world. People from various areas migrated to America and populated here. In hence, there is diversity of cultures, religious, languages and personalities of people in this country. A large part of American adult population belongs from this diverse segment (Health and Services 2008). The Administration on Aging has taken various steps to manage this diversity. But still it is not enough. In this paper a SWOT analysis of this agency is run to trace its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

SWOT ANALYSIS

Strengths:

· The established networks of Administration on Aging are playing very important role to increase its coverage area. These networks enhanced the strength of organization to an optimum level. The organization distributed the tasks to every network to provide the separate service to each population segment. It is a good step to manage the diverse population.

· Competent and talented staff is one of the major strengths of Administration on Aging. Moreover agency recruited the staff from every ethnic group. For example, to serve the Hispanic population, agency recruited the Hispanic people. The staff members of agency have good leadership qualities for the promotion of the agency (Act 2010).

· Effective leadership of Administration on Aging helps the agency’s team to build the good relationship with the aging population and the staff members at company. The staff members at agency are totally satisfied from the performance of their top management (Act 2010). Moreover to create the leadership qualities in aging population and staff members is also the part of agency’s mission and vision.

· The number of programs offered by the agency to prom to the aging population in the country is also very affective to strengthen the company. From day care facilities to residence facilities, the agency is performing numerous programs to promote the aging population.

Weaknesses:

· The complaints which are made by the aging population are mostly about the late delivery of services. Mostly, the complaints are made about the poor transportation services being provided by the agency. The transportation system of the agency is scattered and no coordination is observed among the management members in this case (Daniels, O'Connor et al.). Moreover, many areas of country are not facilitated by the transportation facilities. It is very alarming situation for the agency.

· Partnership made by the agency to promote its activities is not so much collaborative. Many issues are being faced by the agency in case of partnership. Even poor and late delivery of services is also the result of this low collaboration among the partners.

· The budget of agency is shrinking day by day and the current resources are not enough to meet the increasing demand of company. Most of the time, the government grants and public donation to the agency are stopped due to political interventions (Timmreck 2003). The demand for various facilities like day care and health services, educational systems and residences facilities by the aging population is increasing day by day, while the budget amount is declining gradually (Daniels, O'Connor et al.).

· High turnover is one of the major weaknesses of Administration on Aging. Insufficient supply of trained professional is another problem for the agency. The report of Human Services 2014 shown that the employees working on Administration on Aging are very likely to quit their jobs.

· Many times the employees of Administration on Aging are committed to various ethical violations. It is affecting the agency’s image very badly among the target population (Timmreck 2003).

Opportunities:

· Affordable Care Act (ACA) has opened many attractive opportunities for the agency to increase the numbers of its activities. This act offered the agency to introduce many new services like networking, research opportunities, the sharing of information and optimum use of technology to enhance its services more. Moreover, the agency is asked to open its own hospitals and educational systems for the better nurturing of aging population (Rosen and Zlotnik 2001).

· The continued growth of aging population in the country is also very attractive opportunity to grow more. The demand for basic facilities by this aging population is increasing very rapidly. It is very good time for the agency to increase its services and various programs to serve them.

· The reports in year 2014 demonstrated that the total area being covered by the organization is increasing very rapidly. The awareness among the target population about the basic day care and health care facilities is growing and now people understand the objective and services of Administration on Aging. It is very good for agency to improve its social image.

· The social image of the agency is opening many other funding streams. Many political bodies and business faith persons are moving towards the Administration on Aging to help the organization and to increase the circle of activities. It is very beneficial for the career of these political bodies and business persons indirectly (Rosen and Zlotnik 2001).

· Adaption of latest technologies is also very good opportunity for Administration on Aging. It is very good for agency to remove its major weakness that is poor delivery of its services. Through adapting the latest methods and technological devices, organization can make better the degree of its services (Czaja and Lee 2002).

Threats:

· The resources of agency are not enough to meet the increasing needs of aging population. It is big threat for the future and sustainability of agency.

· Various policies and acts being implemented by the state government are limiting the activities of agency. It is threat for Administration on Aging to increase its future growth and activities.

· Political interventions on various issues always proved a big threat for the agency. Various political decisions always affected the growth and budgeting of Administration on aging very badly.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVING

Administration on Aging has built up a network with the help of numerous other associations to increase the circle of its activities. But low collaboration among the partners is major weakness. There is need to remove this problem for the better future of company. There are many programs which are being provided by the agency including the day care of adult people, the health care and residences services to the aging population of the country, the legal and financial assistance to the aging population and transportation facilities. But poor delivery of these services is very dangerous for the image of agency. In hence it is compulsory to fill this gap. Organization promotes the aging population to motivate them work like the active members of the society. Agency is creating the awareness about the rights of aging population in American communities. But these steps are not enough. There is need to increase the number of services to meet the needs of increasing aging population. Moreover, it is compulsory for agency to move towards the adoption of latest technology to improve its performance.
