Duane “Dog” Chapman

Duane Chapman is a famous bounty hunter who lives in Hawaii and has a popular reality television show. Chapman is well known for hunting down bail jumpers and bringing them to jail. In 2003Chapman once again made the news when he captured serial rapists Andrew Luster. Luster escaped to Mexico, in the middle of his trial, were he was accused of drugging and raping three different woman. In his absence he was found guilty in absentia of 86 counts of rape. Duane “Dog” Chapman, his son, and his brother Tim Chapman left for Mexico in order to hunt down the fugitive. The hunt team headed to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where they learned Luster was living under an assumed name.

Dog Chapman and his team captured Andrew Luster but while they were transporting him back to California were arrested by Mexican authorities. Once Mexican authorities identified Luster he was sent back to California but the Chapman team renamed in a Mexican prison until they received bail (Tsai, 2006). While out on bail Dog and team fled back to the United States. Three years later Mexican authorities filed for the extradition of Dog, his son, and Brother Tim. Mexican authorities wanted the trio returned to Mexico to face the charges of illegally bounty hunting. In Mexico bounty hunting is illegal.

The extradition process was not successful because the process took so long that the statue of limitations ran out. In order for an American citizen to be extradited there must be a treaty between the two countries. There is an extradition treaty between America and Mexico. Dog Chapman went into Mexico and violated the law. Just like when a Mexican citizen enters America and commits a crime he should be held responsible for his illegal actions.
