MGT 490 Strategic Management: Case Papers
Case Papers (30%)
You will submit at least ONE case paper based on a case we discuss
in class. If you submit more than one paper only the best one counts
for the final grade.
A case paper accounts for 30% of the final grade.
The paper should be about 7-10 pages (Times 12, typed and double-
spaced). It should focus on and be structured by case-specific
questions, but also reflect knowledge of the topics and models
discussed in class.
Each case paper is due at the beginning of class on the day
when that case is being discussed - no exceptions. Case papers
should be submitted by email.

References & Plagiarism
Case papers should be written in prose, not in summary points. Please
avoid grammatical and spelling errors. Copying from classmates or
from other sources, whether the internet, newspapers, or a journal,
without attributing the citation (plagiarism) will not be tolerated. In
other words, the paper needs to be your own work, and written in your
own words. Use sources to reference facts, ideas, and specific quotes
taken from elsewhere. You need to give references within and at the
end of the text.
Example: According to Morgan (1986), organizational politics can be
analyzed by looking at relations between interests, conflict and power.
At the end: Morgan, G. (1986) Images of Organization. Sage.

Assessment
A good case paper answers all case-related questions (see below), has
good structure, and is written in clear and appropriate language. In
order to answer the questions you may use analytical concepts and
models if appropriate (extra point), relevant external resources (extra
point) and meaningful diagrams or tables (extra point). All in all, I give
15 points maximum for each case paper.
In terms of structure, I would recommend a straight-forward
organization of your argument by question. In any case, please
organize your argument in a way that makes it easy for the reader (and
for me in particular) to identify how you answer the questions. Please
note that the three questions on each case often have two parts (sub-
questions). Please answer all sub-questions.

the better; 2 pts max on each sub-question)
