3 billion people depend on fish for 15% of their protein diet

Fish demand is expected to increase by 10% annually

However, the levels of fish in the ocean are falling due to pollution and overfishing

Such polluted fish is harmful to our health

There is also increasing number of people eating fish

This state of affairs has inspired responsible fish farming

Continuation

Commercial fish farming has been around since 1990s

However most of it has been happening in nets still in the same seas, oceans and lakes

The problem is that the fish are grown in net and do not have space

These areas are still contaminated since they are grown in the same natural contaminated areas

Closed aquiculture environment

In this system fish are grown on land in closed tanks

It is free from contaminations and research show it has been commercially successful

It provides ideal environment for fish farming since the taps pumping water mimic natural currents in oceans

However, this system is a bit expensive since it requires sophisticated systems

Reasons for closed aquaculture

Increase in global demand for sea foods and as source of proteins

Naturals sources are no longer able to sustain the growing demand for fish

This is because of increased environmental pollution

There is also overfishing problem

Failure of open net farming to solve natural fish problems

There is serious fish decline in oceans

Advantages of this system

It is contamination free

The fish are able to grow fast because of good environment

This makes it ideal for commercial purposes

This system is sustainable

It is certain that the fish is organic

Conclusion

Contamination of natural water bodies and over fishing has led to decline of natural fish

To find solution to this challenge, aquaculture has been developed

This is going to guarantee safe fish since there is no pollution

It is commercially viable due to faster growth rates

People ought to adopt this farming to meet the growing demand for seafoods
