2. Kant's theory focuses on RESPECT FOR PERSONS.  Explain how this respect works and why Kant thinks this is a central moral principle.

Kant states:  “Act so that you treat humanity whether in your own person or in that of another, always as an end and never as a means only.”

Kant believes that respecting others and the way you treat them should not be based on benefits and loses. Respect is given, even if it is not returned. Respect is demanded, and should be given, to all persons, regardless of the situation. Kant also believes that it is not up to your discretion what level of respect another person deserves. Why should I lie? Should I lie to hide the truth from you, for what?

Kant believed that one should not lie just to save someone's feelings.  I completely agree to that.  I work in a field that has me critiquing others work constantly.  It kind of seems to be micromanaged but it comes with the territory of being an inspector/supervisor.  I have to inspect their work and give them the go ahead to either continue on their path or stop what they are doing and give them further guidance on why they should stop.  Kant believes that one should tell the truth no matter the emotions or cost affiliated with.  I agree.  Why should I hide my true feelings for an individual because of how it may make them feel.  I know that me being in the Navy I can't "fire" anyone, but I can motivate, mitigate, and perpetrate them in such a way that completes the goals set for them.  I have to feel a certain way about someone that allows me to tell them the truth instead of lying about something.
