Part 1 Personal Model Leadership Essay
This is what I wrote…. And here are my instructors comments: “I think you have an excellent foundation to build your PMOL. Strong values, however you don‘t tie them into the four perspectives required in the syllabus. You need to do this for the Part 2. Include your references in the final also”.
Values ensure that people behave in a certain way because they are informed about what they want in life. The values come from a person’s beliefs, feelings and even experiences. I believe that my personal leadership style should influence everyone in society positively. The society has many needs, and me have to find ways through, which I can show and express true leadership. There are no wrong or right models of leadership because an individual’s personal values dictate their personal leadership model. I have a personal leadership style that is quite flexible, and it allows me to create nurturing, inviting and warm environments. Since I have good values, I am sure that I will succeed and be recognized as a model leader.
The Rokeach survey provided insightful information on instrumental and terminal values that people need to follow. The terminal values that matter most to be are a sense of accomplishment, self-respect and health (Rokeach, 1988). In addition, I believe that the instrumental values, which are important to me, are being helpful, broad-minded and ambitious. The values greatly assist me to express my personal leadership depending on the environment am living. I believe that as an individual who is a leader, it is vital to have a sense of accomplishment. It will be possible to achieve the terminal value through being ambitious. As a leader, I will be able to work hard and ensure that the people I serve work hard as well. It means that the society will benefit from my values because they will want to be like me since I am an ambitious leader who wants to accomplish many important things.
In every association, it is significant to make sure effective leadership exists. I believe that by being broad-minded I can effectively understand the needs of the employees. It means that once their needs are known, it will be possible for me to focus on improving their productivity. In addition, I will be able to reach out to all the employees and ensure that they have healthy interpersonal relationships (Kippenberger, 2002). This medium will assist them form interpersonal relationships with each other both at the workplace and even at home. As a result, I will become a leader who values the people he serves as well as one who is responsible, nurturing and helpful.
I believe on the importance of self-respect as it enables an individual to treat themselves as well as others well. When a person in every society shows self-respect, probably other people will emulate his or her behavior. People who respect themselves will ensure that they treat others well. In turn, I will not have problems at the workplace since everyone will find ways of promoting the well-being of others. Based upon my personal leadership model, I will greatly benefit from self-respect, as I will gain extra morals such as the significance of the work in teams. The overall objective for any leader is to ensure that they have a healthy organization, and I will have achieved this. In conclusion, the Rokeach survey is beneficial to individuals who want to have effective leadership traits. The instrumental and terminal values I believe by proving that I can lead others and in turn, even motivate them to become leaders. The leadership traits I will gain will be persuasiveness, commitment and being a positive role model.
