I have chosen to attend Kaplan University to obtain a BA in Health Care Administration. Obtaining a bachelor’s degree or higher in the medical field or health services field the medium national salary varies depending on your experience or college level. However, living in Colorado there is a great of demand for Health Care Administrator. Like any other state Colorado is trying to improve and sustain health. Colorado could see more than a 25%increase in the field by the year 2022 with over 4300 new health services. I f I decide to further my education such as Master’s degree I could earn wages similar to medical and health services manager’s with an income of over $100 thousand according to BLS, 2013 data. There are no certain requirement that you need beside your degree but there are many courses you can take to get a better job. Being a health care administrator if you wanted to work in a nursing home you have to pass National Association of Long Term Care Administration Boards (NAB) and obtain state licensure. You are not required to be licensed; however, voluntary certification is available from Kaplan and through ACHCA (America College of Healthcare Administrator. There are several ways that I can meet these requirements either by OTJ training, getting a job in a nursing home, insurance company, hospital, and schedule for practice exams. I decided to enroll in Kaplan University the programs here are all accredited and there is no certain course or programs that I have to take to full fill for my degree or for employment. Job outlook in Colorado for Health care administrators is expected to grow 23 percent through 2022. A bachelor’s degree in health services administration will give you the skills you’ll need for an entry-level position, such as administrative assistant. But the job market for health executives is strong all over the country: however; it is even better in Colorado. O*Net reports that job openings in this field are expected to increase 2 percent more than the national average between2010 and 2020. Having a master’s degree will increase your chances of getting better job with a higher pay. More and more jobs are opening up in rural areas in the state as well in Colorado according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2013 data. As the median age of the population climbs and baby boomers remain active into their retirement years, healthcare services are expected to expand in response to those demographic shifts. There are several duties depending on the specific duties vary according to job title. Nurse home administrators make sure that the patient receives proper care. Health care administrator also known as medical services managers which manage the administrative tasks of hospitals, medical laboratories, physician practices and other health care facilities. In small offices, administrators answering phones, filing patient records, issuing and paying bills, and processing insurance claims. Large office they task out the work to new hires. Keep up to date on new laws and regulation, communicate with members of the staff and department heads, keep and organize records of the facility services number of patient beds being used (nursing home or hospital). While working in these facilities I would be using the following tools and technology for this occupation: desktop computers, personal computers, scanners, medical software (EMR, MedForce Misys Tiger healthcare), electronic mail server (IBM lotus note), document management software (CPT.e-MDs docman).
