Self-Care Practices for PHC

In this journal entry you will evaluate the determinants of holistic health according to traditional health care models and propose how and which holistic health self-care practices you can apply to your PHC. This week’s journal will build on the work you completed in the Week One journal as well as the research you are completing in this week’s Research into Self-Care Practice in Holistic Health written assignment. Prior to beginning this assignment, please be sure to interact with the required materials for this week specifically Chapters 5, 6, 7 and 10 in Invitation to Holistic Health by Eliopoulos (2014). You may also wish to review the recommended reading from Week Two, Chapters 2, 3, 4 and 9 also in Invitation to Holistic Health by Eliopoulos (2014). These chapters highlight specific determinants of health while at the same time making the connection between mind, body and spirit. In addition you are to also glean additional information on the determinants of health from the material you have researched for your written assignment.

In 500-1000 words, describe and evaluate two holistic self-care practices which you believe will improve your overall vitality and directly or indirectly affect your PHC. (No discussion of your PHC is required as it has been provided in previous weekly assignments.) Substantiate the proposed effects of these practices on health and wellness with a minimum of two scholarly or peer-reviewed research articles on each of your chosen self-care practices (total of four resources).

Briefly describe how you intend to implement these self-care practices in the coming days and what you expect in terms of the immediate effects of these on your PHC.

Carefully review the Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your journal entries.

Research into Self-Care Practice in Holistic Health

&nbsp &nbsp

In this assignment, you will research and describe specific holistic self-care activities that may directly impact your PHC and explore how people can empower themselves to improve their health and directly affect their PHCs. Be sure to interact with the required materials for this week specifically chapters 5, 6, 7 and 10 in the course text. You may also wish to review the recommended reading from Week Two, including chapters 2, 3, 4 and 9 from the course text.

From the subject matter covered thus far in your recommended reading you will analyze the connections between self-care and self- efficacy practices (e.g., healthful nutrition, exercise, sleep and rest, spiritual connection, immune enhancement, stress management, healthy relationships, and balancing work and life) does impact to our health. More importantly, these practices can be carried out independent of a practitioner at little to no cost.

Furthermore, these practices can be undertaken by anyone at any point in one’s life, remembering that one’s level of proficiency in these practices is dependent on commitment, time, monetary and inner resources (e.g., will, dedication, self-awareness, and self-love). They are also practices that don’t necessitate specialty skills and can be practiced anywhere and at any time.

Your task for this assignment is to demonstrate how these determinants of health practices (mentioned above) can directly impact your PHC. Consider the impact it will have on the levels of holistic health (e.g., mind, body, and spirit) of your PHC.
