Home Improvement Store Chain

Product Vision and Envisioning Practice

Product vision will involve the product team being galvanized into focusing their views of the products concise, visual and short textual form. It is important to focus on the potential inherent in the company’s future, so we intend to provide customers with the best online shopping experience from the beginning to the end with a smart searchable website, fast quality delivery, easy to follow instructions, clear and secure payment methods. The heart of the product vision will highly depend on the selected customers and the necessary product attributes meeting those needs and to improve we should select the targeted customers during the planning phase of the website. Then the relevant customer needs will be decided on which market or market segment that’s going to be addressed. Identifying product attribute critical high level requirements the product should satisfy the needs.

Attributes of the product will include functional and non-functional requirements. Usability, performance and robustness comprises of the non-functional requirements. Functional requirements will describe the product’s functions and features. The attributes of the products will serve as a guide for the team, act as constrain and get the possible solutions.

Envisioning practice will summarize the goals, technical constraints, competition and audience, reviews of previous versions and design concepts of the products. The documentation of the Envision Practice is enormous since it brings together ideas of the stakeholder team into a single document which can be used for communication, to get any up to speed and reviews. The goal of the envision practice is to develop a clear product concept and present the concept in the initial sketches of the proposed functionality.

Roles of the agile project team

Project Manager: coordinate and communicate tactical implementation of the web site, act within the constraints of the project charters and goals, development schedule, quality objectives laid out in the planning stages and project budget. Project manager will be responsible for keeping the overall team activates focused on the site strategic objectives and agreed deliverables, continually monitoring the scope of the project activities and ensure that the team stays within the time limit and on budget. It is a must that Project manager should be of IT Field in order to understand what the developers and other team players will communicate him/her

Developers: the content developers will be responsible with determining appropriate architecture and other technical solutions and make relevant recommendations. Communicate to the project manager with efficiency and accuracy on any progress. The main work for the developers will be to build and refine graphic designs for the websites, convert raw images and layouts from graphics designers into CSS/XHTML.

Web design Analyst will be meeting with the clients and inform them on the progress of the project, demonstrate and receive feedback about draft sites. The major role will be to identify the needs within an organization that correspond to the sphere of the online world. They will be required to gather informations from the clients and customers that will help the development in coming up with what’s required.

Administrator’s role will be to maintain the website once it is deployed and also do updates when it is required by the firm. They will also ensure that the content is protect from outside intrusion and attacks.

System Testers will be required to run the website before it is deployed to customers and see whether there are bugs and errors popping up. They will also be required to stress the system and see whether it is possible for it to crash when there is too much activates taking place.

Iterative Process: refers to idea of design are repeated in a cycle and in each cycle the idea is elaborated, refined and tested and the results of testing at each field/cycle feed into the focus of the next cycle. This type of design is merely the process of creating a prototype, testing it, evaluating the results, redesigning and retesting. The project use this type of design whereby, when there is a problem in a particular stage, they go back to the predecessor. For instance, when the prototype is developed, the testers will try to see if there are any bugs or errors by running the system. If they find any they will inform on the developers and the project will be taken back to the developers again for correction and debugging. Retesting will be done again once the developers will be through.

Stories are important in the agile delivery framework because, they are written to obtain more information on the functionality of the system being developed and also assist in expressing non-functional requirements (Security, Performance and Quality).

Example 1: developer asking the product manager information about the products being manufactured by a company in details in order to come up with the website.

Example 2: developer talking to a customer about the user and how it should, color of the text and it background, how much content it should contain.
