Energy production and consumption presents challenges in the generation and matching of the expanding needs on the global front. Miro Zeman’s article, “Integrating electricity from solar energy in electricity power system”, and Adil Usman et. al’s, “Sustainable energy in rural communities of Bongouanou: Utilizing solar energy as a source for electricity” discuss the place of solar energy in providing a solution to the energy dilemma. Solar energy’s integration to the electricity system provides the solution to the increased energy demand alongside the provision of clean and renewable energy.

Comparison

Zeman’s article discusses the issue of increasing energy demands a component with similarity to Usman’s article with increment necessitating the diversification of electricity generation with older sources providing consistent supply within the last decade. Solar related energy presents the avenue for supplementing the deficits associated with the national grid with specificity in meeting the power needs of isolated areas. Photovoltaic systems provide flexibility with the abundance of sunshine in numerous places as exemplified through Bongouanou in Ivory Coast with additional reduction in the costs associated with connection utilizing hydroelectricity and other generation sources. The sustainability aspect is compounded through the storing aspect associated with solar energy an aspect absent in hydro-related generation alongside coal, and oil with the previous sources lacking the sustainability component. Solar energy presents one avenue for clean electricity with renewability; hence, it does not link with the depletion of resources. Solar energy presents the solution to increased energy demands alongside the increased need for resource conservation. The first difference relates to the approach undertaken for the two articles with Usman’s article relating the issue of solar energy with a case study of Bongouanou while Zeman’s article presents a generalized approach. Zeman addresses the incorporation of solar sourced electricity t the main grid with the integration expected to provide solutions to the expansion of the grid beyond its stagnation in decades. Contrary to the approach of integrating solar energy within the grid, Usman et el emphasizes on the complementary aspect of solar energy in providing solutions to the deficiencies associated with the national grid. Usman et al identifies the minimal penetration of grid power to rural areas of developing nations and indicates the exploration of solar energy within the rural setting as an avenue for solving the challenge associated with connecting rural areas to the grid. Zeman views solar energy as providing solutions within all areas inclusive of urban areas with increased viability of generating electricity in community- based grids through the photovoltaic technology.

   

 

Electricity is identified as having immense importance in the stimulation of economic activities with utilization in different capacities. Further, electricity is a critical component in household with an increasing penetration of household appliances requiring electrical support for functioning. The generation of electricity and energy has been dependent on coal, oil, and hydroelectricity sources related with the diminishing of natural resources. Diversification into solar sourced energy provides an avenue for clean and reliable energy devoid of the negative effects on the environment. Solar energy is in abundance in numerous regions and complemented through the photovoltaic technology has the option of being stored hence enhancing its reliability.
