Part I: Find a peer-reviewed article and list the name of the journal, author(s) and the title of the article. This exercise helps us build on the Professional APA paper that will be due near the end of the semester.
Please locate an article which relates to psychology of personality or adjustment.
After locating and reviewing the peer-reviewed, professional journal article, please identify the following:
1) Abstract: What is it? 2) Introduction: What does it provide to the reader? 3) Method: What is it and what is the purpose? 4) Results: What’s the function of this section? 5) Discussion: What’s the purpose/function of this section?
6) Conclusion: What is it? What’s the purpose?
7) References: What are they? How do they benefit the reader?
Then: You will apply information learned from various or any chapters in your Cory & Cory textbook in order to critically evaluate and explain the results of your chosen article in a one-page paper (using the APA style information).
Part II: Discussion Board:
8) What is the difference between a peer- reviewed, primary professional journal article vs. one that is found, in for example, Psychology Today or Essence magazine?
9) What are some of the pitfalls that can occur as a result of second-hand reporting (from an article and paraphrasing for the general public) or even a third- hand, such as a report on CNN t.v. based on an article from Psychology Today, taken from a peer- reviewed article? List three pitfalls, please.
10) What is a good way to critically analyze information as it appears from second and even third-hand sources?
