Natural History of Cleveland (Earth & Space Science)
The Earth is scientifically proven to have began 12 ½ billion years ago. This included; space, energy, time and matter itself. According to proven scientific studies, there was a compressed primordial fireball called the Big Bang. Matter must have clamped together soon after the Big Bang to form the galaxies we see today. 4 ½ billion years ago the moon however, was proved by astronomers to be a portion of the earth that broke off after a collision with a planet much larger than Mars.
There are several formidable proofs of the standard Big Bang model of the universe, there include the facts that we live in an expanding universe. One in which more distant galaxies recede at a tremendously faster rate than nearby ones. Also, that the Big Bang model accurately accounts for the known cosmic abundance of chemical elements found throughout the universe. Finally, the radiation released as hot material of the early universe thinned and cleared has been detected as the cosmic microwave background.
Meteor impacts caused the recently cooled young earths surface to look very much like that of the moon. This also explains the chemical composition of the moons rocks, which are a mixture of the earth’s crust, and the planet that hit the earth. The four layers which include the crust, mantle, outer core and the inner core of the earth however, all formed due to the impact of these meteors and the decay of radioactive minerals, which heated young earth into a mass of molten rock. Heavier elements sank toward the center to form the earth’s core.
In conclusion, everything we see on earth today had to wait a few hundred years, approximately 700 million years, due to intense bombardment from meteorites. When the surface conditions were more stable to stand any chance of evolving.
