Design Report Guidelines

Cover Page:

Include your name, description of project, course name, and date.

Abstract:

One paragraph description of the project (what the assignment entails, findings, recommendations, conclusions). Abstract shall contain text only (no figures or charts).

Summary:

One to two pages long, serves as a complete condensation of the report including the process used to accomplish the requirements, findings, recommendations, and conclusions. It should not include any material not covered in the report and shall be text only (no figures or charts).

Critical Review of Current Design:

This section shall spell out the findings of the critical design review. This includes the identification of the customers and their requirements/needs and identification and deconstruction of 3 specific design features – could be a customer-specific requirement, a technical feature, a cost-driven feature, or a DFx feature. The rationale for each of these features shall be identified and an assessment of the feature’s performance against the identified customer requirements/needs shall be performed. This section should also contain any research, drawings, tables, or calculation results pertaining to the review.

Embodiment Design Synthesis:

This section shall explain the 3 specific changes made to the current design. This includes objectives and justification for each change and how each addressed the shortcomings reported in the previous section. In addition, 3D solid models showing each specific design change should be included.

Conclusion and Future Work: About one paragraph to one page long.
