1 . I chose compensation, benefits, and job analysis as my goal. I do not currently work in this field but it is something I would like to do. When my mother passed away I got left with quite the mess of paperwork that I knew nothing about. This included a 401k, life insurance, social security benefits and a few others. I remember wishing I knew half of what the paperwork was talking about or what to do next. Things I did not know about Compensation, Benefits, and Job Analysis Specialists in New Hampshire on average make 55,900 a year. I also did not know that most in this field only have a bachelor’s degree. Some have more and some have less, but I did not know you could be in this field without a degree.
I chose this topic because it caught my interest. Before this course I had planned to get my degree and wing it sort of speaks, more of take the first job in the wide spread field that came my way, But after I saw this, it’s something I would enjoy doing. Knowing the ins and outs of these could be very beneficial to me and others. I enjoy helping others, so maybe in this field I could still help others and help them feel at ease. Maybe I can help someone that was in my situation being able to understand it all a little better and not such a pile of paperwork with a side of migraine.
After learning more about this field I do feel I have the skills that qualify me for the occupation. I am an active listener, have great reading comprehension, righting skills, and although they did not name it, I am very detail oriented and that is something I feel like you should have when dealing with another person’s benefits. To be honest we all work just to live, what’s the point on working so hard just so you make the cut for benefits. You know u get medical and dental, but when you get since, they throw five different numbers at you and say you owe however much. I want to be the person explaining the benefits so I can make sure they understand what they are paying for and what is and not covered.
2. I have decided to research Labor Relations in the field of Human Resources. Labor relations within human resources assists with general management concerning developing, preserving and refining employee dealings by means of communication, managing of performance, handling complaints and/or disagreements as well as explaining and transmitting an organizations guidelines. In essence, labor relations are involved with averting and solving difficulties concerning employees which generate from or influence work situations. Labor relations within human resources are also accountable for negotiation and administration of the Collective Bargaining Agreements between organization and union (Pace University, 2011).
With being a new graduate with a bachelor’s in Healthcare Management and being interested in human resources specifically labor relations, I can expect to be offered some entry to mid-level positions in human resources management. The duties of labor relations managers and their personnel are to employ industrial labor relations programs and supervise conformity with discussed union agreements. With union membership fading in most businesses except the public sector, industrial relations personnel are in contact significantly with individuals who are not unionized. State governments are going after collective bargaining agreements of public sector labor forces because of the cost and unwieldiness of the agreements. Therefore, according to my research, as a consequence of these trends, labor relations specialists may encounter a narrow degree of employment opportunities. It would be in my best interest to gear my studies and experience in general human resources as I would be more employable with proficiency in a broader range of needed HR expertise (Heathfield, 2014).
As stated before, if I am interested in Labor Relations within Human Resources, it will best suit my career path if I gear my interests in general human resources. Though labor relations is extremely important in any business entity, it would be of greater significance if a greater knowledge of human resources is known and ready to be implemented in the prospective career path that I have chosen.
