Internal and External Customers
The customer is the consumer that purchases the services or product from the business. They are essential to the success of any business whether they are the internal customer or the external customer. The external customer is the consumer that shops at the establishment or orders the product online. The internal customer is the employee that works everyday to ensure the external customer receives a high quality product or service. Both the external and internal customers are essential to the ultimate success of the business but each plays a different role in the success of the business.
The external customer uses the service the business provides which in turns creates profit for the business. The internal customer creates the product or provides the service that attracts consumers and makes them become an external customer. When the external customer is satisfied with the quality of the product or service they receive they will continue to use the product or service as well as inform other consumers about the product or service which increases the businesses visibility (Joseph, 2013). This in turn will increase the profitability of the business. The opposite can occur if the external customer is not satisfied.
It is important to take great consideration in the treatment of both the external and internal customer. Even though the internal customer does not buy the product or service they are pivotal to any successes the business will have because they are the ones that provide the product or service. If the internal customer is ineffective or creates a poor product the business cannot thrive. The internal customer should be treated fairly and be provided with a competitive salary, benefits, and opportunities for career growth. The management must create a culture where the internal customer can be a success in the work environment.
If the internal customer is not motivated then they will be less likely to meet the needs of the external customer. When the internal customer is satisfied they will more likely to go out of their way to ensure the business is a success. The external customer is just as important as the internal customer because if there are no customers to buy the product or service the business will fail (Cavalcante, 2012). The business relies on the external customer to ensure to in part ensure their success. The internal and external customers are equally necessary to ensuring the customers success.
Treating the internal and external customer equally will improve the quality in the organization. The internal customer will provide a quality product or service that is enjoyed by the external customer. The external customer that receives a high quality product will provide quality feedback about the company to friends and family and online. When an external customer receives a quality product or service they will become loyal customers that also become a positive for of advertisement.
