Part One

There were many historical regional differences affecting the development of political structures in the United States. In the South the focus was on agriculture and finding cheap ways to plant and process the agriculture goods they produced. In the North the focus was on manufacturing and more urban processes. The South employed the use of African slaves for their labor while the North slavery was considered inhumane (Thomas, 2010). The North attracted skilled workers and professionals while in the South the rich got wealthy by buying slaves to work the crops of tobacco, sugarcane, rice and cotton.

These differences resulted in different societal norms and cultures. In the South the people could thrive and survive off the plentiful crops as well as their livestock of chickens, pigs, and cows while in the North the people relied on the crops produced in the South. This angered the North and gave the South economic wealth. In the North the Republican Party emerged while in the South the Democratic Party reigned. The North supported a strong central government while the South supported stronger rights for the state, the two opposing view eventually sparked the Civil War.

Part Two

In current society the South and the North do not have the same great divide but there are still differences in the cultures. In the north the focus is still more on manufacturing while agriculture is still dominant in the South. One distinct difference; however, is the dominant political party currently in the South us the Republican Party and the dominant political party in the North is the Democratic Party. In the North society is more liberal and focused on industry whil in the South religion is dominant with churches on just about every coroner creating a more conservative and moral lifestyle.

In the South life is slow paced with the focus being more on family. Women and men in the South get married early and while they have careers are less focused on having a career as people in the North and the West. The South and the North developed differently throughout time establishing different cultures and societal norms. In the North life is faster paced and more liberal. People are more accepting of different religions and life styles in the North while in the South they reject anything not widely accepted in society especially in the Bible.
