Revolutionary War

The Revolutionary War resulted in the creation of the first democratic society where citizens were free to pursue happiness and afforded liberty. Before a democratic society could be created colonists had to free themselves from the oppressive reign of the British government. While the British originally settled the land now known as America, colonists that left England to make their home in the colonies first had to fight for this freedom. The Revolutionary War was also the result of colonists fed up with the abusive actions of the British government. England would send representative known as governors to enforce the payment of taxes. Citizens that failed to pay would lose their land or be imprisoned.

The second reason the Revolutionary War was sparked was because England appointed a Parliament for the colonists that did not contain any colonists or any members with any experience with life in the colonies (Pavao, 2012). This only further angered the colonists and resulted in the development of independent states who fought against England to become independent unions. When England refused to accept the colonists right to create an independent nation colonists were willing to fight for this right. England did not want to accept the colonists bid for freedom and the war began.

Colonists had no choice but to go to war against England. Not only were the British military and the British officials sent from England becoming more cruel and abusive the taxes and fines imposed by England were impossible to pay. The colonists were no longer in England but any money they made went to the British government (Price, 2008). There was no way for an economy to survive under these conditions giving colonists no choice but to go to war especially when England imposed the unreasonable Stamp Act, Sugar Act, and Townsend Act.

Not only did England impose unreasonable taxes the British government send representative and soldiers responsible for committing heinous acts against the people. The Boston Massacre is on example of the bad actions of soldiers who shot and killed eleven townspeople over a simple argument between a soldier and a teenager. As a result of the war Americans now enjoy many freedoms denied the colonists. They sacrificed their lives and as a result the greatest nation in the world was created.
