In the Common Sense text, and the Plain Truth, both authors Thomas Paine and James Chalmers had a statement and a message that they wanted to deliver to the whole world. Although they both might disagree with some points, however, they have the same main point. They wanted to discuss about why every country is separated from each other, most countries are friends and allies, but they are different in the way they live in. The politics are different.
They were trying to discover why countries are not all one whole continent. Britain contains many countries, it’s a continent with many different languages, different politics and all have borders to separate, but they are all allies and friends. So why wouldn’t they all be one whole country? The way they live in is different, but the cultures are similar to each other, they once was all one country, but because of WW1 and continuously in WW2 countries have separated. Even though there is nothing to be worried about right now, but let’s say WW3 happens for some reason, what would make it happen? Of course because of some kind of a disagreement. Why wouldn’t they all become one nation so, that would thing would never occur. No other thing would let WW3 unless of a disagreement.
People from North America are originally from Europe and Great Britain, they discovered North America and moved to it for survival reason. They made colonies, states and then became one nation which is The United States of America. Which means they are still originally Europeans and Britains, why did they separate and become separated countries. Their main purpose was to find a new land to live in, but years and years after they forgot each other. It’s almost like they were never existed at first in Europe and Britain. So, why didn’t they become one whole country with one king or queen to rule. What happened that made them separate? WW2 happened when Germany was trying to get back their own lands and then countries became enemies. If from the start they never separated, WW2 wouldn’t have happened. So, what Thomas Paine was trying to say is, they were all originally from one land before Columbus discovered North America. And so, to make WW never happen again, it’s better for those continents to become one whole nation instead of separated nations. Because they are all friends and allies anyways, but if WW happens, of course because of a disagreement, each country will be by its own and just like if they were never friends or allies.
Unlike Thomas Paine, James Chalmers was trying to discuss about different kind of thing but it’s connected and related to this issue, which is slavery. Slavery was also one of the reason why countries separated. People traded slaves and they moved them from continents to other continents just because they were seeking for gold, silver, or something to eat to survive. They went to North America from Europe and Britain and traded in North America. They liked the lands there. Food was everywhere, it was easy for them to live and survive in North America unlike Europe and Britain. Plague and illness was everywhere in Europe and Britain, people died every day. Many souls were lost and it was very hard and difficult to survive. And so, they moved to North America and became their Homeland.
Also, the author was sad of how slaves were treated and being traded among people. Slaves have souls they are humans, it was wrong of what they did to them. They had a homeland, Africa. But they took them from it separated them from their beloved families, broke their hearts just to sell them and get gold or silver in return. It was savage and bloodshed everywhere. Africans being killed every day. Innocent people that did nothing to anyone and never hurt a soul not even a fly.
Overall, I think both authors have a good statement to discuss and a very clean message to deliver for the readers. I think that it’s for the best to do whatever they want to do, but it would be great for people to stop racism and became one whole nation. Everyone would live happy and nothing to be disagreed about. No more wars or bloodshed to happen.
