Portfolio Project Guidelines Objective.  The purpose of this project is to provide an opportunity for each student to investigate a topic of particular interest to them.  It is not always possible to explore every important topic in depth within the constraints of a semester class schedule.  The portfolio project allows you to do that. The portfolio project consists of a PowerPoint presentation (including outline notes) in which you would present what you have learned about the topic you selected. Topic.  Sex Industries in Thailand Resources.  While the Internet provides a medium for research, it should not be the sole medium.  You should rely equally heavily on traditional library resources.  Contrary to popular belief, it is NOT the case that everything is available on the Internet. Certain resources are unreliable and unacceptable.  Such resources include The CIA World Factbook and Wikipedia.  You may consult them to identify other more legitimate resources, but they may not be your primary sources.  Your search should focus on books and Google Scholar (for journal articles).  Simple Google searches that bring back nothing but web-based, non-scholarly content are unacceptable.  Projects loaded with such internet sites as sources (http:anything) will be graded no higher than a C.  Make this a scholarly effort. There is no upper limit on the number of resources. However, you should not consider that you have done a good job if you consult six internet sites and a couple journal articles.  Nor should you consider a single book an adequate investigation, regardless of its length.  I expect a pretty thorough effort.  What I judge to be a “reasonable research effort” will be a factor in determining a grade for the project. Product.  The term project product will be a PowerPoint slide presentation (minimum of twenty content slides which do NOT include title slides and bibliographic reference slides).  It must be accompanied by outline notes that make each slide intelligible and which link it to the others in the presentation.  The notes must appear in the PowerPoint document, NOT as a separate Word document.  If you do not know how to do this, you should experiment and practice in advance so as not to rsk being forced into a costly late submission. You should use the bibliography in Bangkok’s Intimate Economies as your guide to proper citation of sources.  Your outline notes should link each slide to the resource material on which it is based.
