How to turn a drama screen play into a comedy?

EXT. CITY AIRPORT MOTEL - NIGHT An “Open” sign of a rundown hotel fades in and out against the decaying landscape. INT. HOTEL ROOM 16 - NIGHT NINA, 17, African American, holds her stomach. She struggles to sit up in the old squeaky bed. She pulls the covers off and flings them off to the side. She reaches down underneath her black nightgown and lifts her hand up to reveal blood. Nina, startled, lets out a moan. She grabs her stomach and bites her bottom lip. S he struggles to pull herself off the bed, she nervously stares at her bloody hand. Nina wobbles to the bathroom. She passes an old desk with a clock that reads 11:29, a bible, and her ringing I-Phone that reads, “Rapist”. INT. BATHROOM - NIGHT Nina grabs hold of the door for support. Her feet touch the bathroom tile as liquid runs down her inner thighs. She bends down to grab the end of her nightgown. A gush of water hits the bathroom floor and her bare feet. She stares at herself in the bathroom mirror. Nina Why is this happening to me? Nina puts her elbows on the sink and hangs her head low. She grabs her stomach. In pain, she rushes to the toilet and sits. She strains to push and lets out a loud moan. Nina, her face sweaty, grabs her wild hair, frustrated. She leans over to push. She reaches down inside the toilet, and gasps. Flashback to: INT. ninas’s bedroom - day ZO , 40, short, dark, in boxer shorts and a t-shirt , enters. Posters of Chris Brown cover the walls. He approaches her bed and hovers over her. Nina stares up at him with tears in her eyes. Nina Where is my mom? Zo Gone. Remember what I said about keeping me happy so Mommy won’t have to go away? Zo gets on top of her. Nina cries in silence. Nina (pre-lap) this would be a terrific pre-lap because the next scene starts with her screaming in the hotel room. She grabs the baby's head as it slides out. Holding the baby in both her hands, she admires her son. His soft cries echo and bounce off the bathroom walls. She winces in pain. Almost dropping her son, she moans. She grabs a towel off the sink and wraps the baby boy inside and gently lays him on the floor next to the toilet. Nina, hovered over in pain, pushes. She puts her hand back in the toilet bowl as the afterbirth drops into the toilet. Startled at seeing it attached to her son's navel, she grabs it and wraps it in another towel. She picks up her son and carries him into the bedroom. Blood drips down her legs onto the bedroom carpet. Her cell phone reads, “Missed Call, Rapist” The clock reads 12:13 a.m. Flashback to: Int. Drugstore - dayS SAND, 38, holds up a package of feminine pads to Nina, who wears baggy jeans and an oversized hoodie . Sand Nina, aren’t you due? Nina Um , yes, ma. Actually I started getting cramps today. I’m going to grab some Midol . Nina pretends to look for Midol . She spots the pregnancy tests nearby. Checking to see that Sand is looking at something else, she pockets a pregnancy test. int. bathroom - night Nina, holding the pregnancy up to see the results, reacts with shock. It reads, “Positive” Back to: INT. hotel room 16 - NIGHT Placing the baby in the middle of the bed and laying a pillow on each side, Nina’s tears flow. She sobs. Nina walks to the door and bends down to remove one of her shoelaces from her shoes. Nina walks to the bed and unwraps the baby. She ties the shoelace around the end of the umbilical cord and reaches into her purse on the desk. She pulls out a pocket knife. She closes her eyes and cuts the umbilical cord. She opens her eyes, wraps the baby in the towels and walks to the bathroom. She runs warm water and puts the child in the sink. After rinsing the baby, she lays him in the tub and cleans herself. Nina picks up the baby from the tub, walks back into the bedroom area, and sits at the old wooden desk. She removes her breast and nurses the baby. They stare into each others eyes. The vibration of Nina's cell phone interrupts them. Nina grabs her phone. The screen reads, “Mommy”. Nina Hello. INT. Car - cONTINUOUS SAND, 41, paces the kitchen floor, frantic. Sand Where are you at, little girl?! I’ve been calling and riding around looking all over for you! Int. Hotel room 16 - cONTINUOUS Nina holds the phone away from her ear, rolling her eyes. Nina Mom. Now is not a good time. Sand Not a good time?! Who do you think you’re talking to, one of your little school girlfriends? It's time when I say it's time. Nina cell phone beeps. It reads, “Rapist”. Nina Hold on, Mom. Nina pauses her mom's call. Int. Apartment - cONTINUOUS Zo sits on a couch. Nina (V.O.) WHAT?! Zo Nina, make your way home now. Your mom is worried sick. Nina (V.O.)
