The organization I have chosen to be used for the course project is the Willard Intercontinental Hotels, in Washington, D.C. The Willard Intercontinental Hotel is a franchise hotel, a part of the IHG brand. IHG is globally one of the leading hotel chains, and has 693,072 rooms in over 4,700 hotels in nearly 100 countries. The chain has nine hotel brands namely Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites, Candlewood Suites, EVEN Hotels, and HVALUXE Hotels and Resorts. The company manages 722 hotels worldwide, with over 4,001 hotels operated under franchise agreements. The IHG brand earned 400 awards in 2013, and has over 350,000 employees working in their hotels. The Willard Intercontinental Hotel, an Intercontinental Hotel Franchise in Washington, DC, is a four star hotel.

Organizational objectives are not accomplished because of lack of proper training of employees. As a …….. at the Willard hotel, I have first-hand suffered demotivation at my job for several reasons. Employees are not well trained by management and this leads to poor job performance and a very high turn-over rate for the hotel. Job promotion is very rare, which leads to a high turnover because employees are not encouraged to work for the company because of the lack of growth opportunities. There is no advancement opportunity because employees are not well trained to assume new positions.

For any organization to be successful employees must be well trained, stay motivated and seek value in their jobs. Where employees are not properly trained, motivation is less, there is always a risk of a high turn-over rate, conflict and the organization spending a lot of money to hire and retrain new employees.
