Course Description from catalog: Writing a research paper/s. Formulating/answering a research question. Developing an organizational/argument strategy for topic/audience. Supporting research question/argument with scholarly sources (no newspaper, magazine, or from “.com “website, must be scholarly, you can use google scholarly, at least from 3 books and 6 articles)

Building Assignment one: Do (at least) one of the following:

· Paper Outline: You will outline your intended paper, putting your thoughts in an organized format. This will be presented as the main points/topic sentences of each of your paragraphs throughout the paper. This can help identify areas that need more research, areas that need better arguments, and ensure that you are presenting the opposition. 2-4 pages.

· Research Proposal: You will be required to define a research question and plan a paper appropriate for an academic audience. You will propose your topic of inquiry, your research question, and present a week by week timeline identifying start and end dates for researching, outlining, drafting, etc, along with tasks for each phase to help manage the product. 1-4 pages.

· Building Assignment 2: Do (at least) one of the following:

· Quote bank: Going through the sources you have collected, you will develop a 'quote bank' with the bibliographic information for each source followed by several quotes from each. You won't need to use all of these quotes, but having them all in one place will be very helpful. 2-5 pages

· Annotated Bibliography: You will present the sources you intend to use for your paper, along with a paragraph of annotation discussing the merits of the source and how it applies to your research question. You must have at least 10 academic sources for this assignment. 3-5 pages.

· Building Assignment 3: Do (at least) one of the following.

· Prose Draft: You will write your paper, from start to finish, without research. This will allow you to organize your thoughts, present your argument, and identify what points are most in need of research support. 5-8 pages.

· Extended Paper Outline: You will take your initial outline and fill out the individual points, placing quotes from your research where you intend to use them through the paper, expanding on main points, and determining what needs more, what should be cut, etc. 3-5 pages.

· Paper Draft: This draft of your paper will be as complete as possible, answering your research question as completely as you can. You must use 12-15 academic sources, at least 3 of which must be from academic books and 6 from academic articles. 10-12 pages.

· Final Paper: This paper will be written in response to the feedback for the paper draft, a substantial rewrite resulting in a tighter, more trimmed paper with more focus, increased depth, and a more complete answer to your research question. 8-10 pages.

· Formats: All papers should be written with APA format, including (as needed) a cover page and a bibliography; these do NOT count towards the length requirement of the paper.

· All papers must be written in Times New Roman, 12 point font. They must be double spaced (one page means at least one word on the second page), and the space between paragraphs that MSWord automatically puts in MUST be removed (No space between paragraphs).
