1) It is easy for some of the bigger companies to become complacent with the changing market trends because no matter the economy people still go to their restaurants. Darden knows that no matter the economy people will still go to Olive Garden and Red Lobster. They might not order as much in a bad economy but the consumers love the restaurants so much that they make an effort to go every once and awhile. It would be harder for them to be compliant if people stopped going when the economy was bad.

2) I think that the discount could be a good thing or a bad thing. people know these restaurants as good quality and kinda expensive food so when they go in and the prices are significantly cheaper they associate the price change with a decline in the quality of the food that they are eating. On the other side of things to some people these restaurants is something that they only get to eat at once a year but since they prices are lower they are able to go more often as a special treat. In all I think that it is a good idea to have the lower prices in their restaurants.

3) One of the main advantages is that in most strip malls there isn't a food court so when people go to the strip malls there isn't a place to go eat at so if these restaurants move in then they are going to get the majority of the business of hungry people. When i think of strip malls i honestly think of outlet malls where the places aren't the most expensive and people that go to some of the outlet malls cannot afford to spend money on food.

1. For enormous companies as Darden, since they already have such a vast amount of loyal customers it is easy to lose sight of trends occurring. And with the major advance in technology, these companies created decades ago, never had to worry about changes being made. As companies become comfortable at what they have been doing for years. They feel as they do not need to worry about changes as they have numerous loyal customers to their brands.

2. I believe that it is a great move, by how it can attract a multiple amount of new customers. But not only attract new customers, it can also bring in the previous loyal customers more times than they would usually come and dine. Also with the new discounts being marketed, it could start even a new trend of dining out more than often, especially if the discounts are at a great price, for all types of markets. But i would say no as well, which falls back at the customers looking for that quality and not cheap dining.

3. Having a location in a strip mall is great strategy, not only is it near many other stores/restaurants it is open to all of the consumers. The restaurants receives a great amount of volume, it can attract customers just by walking by and getting a whiff of the smell of food, so in a way it is marketing to all of the shoppers passing by. And if it is in some sort of shopping center most people, end up dining after they are done shopping and the restaurants can hand out flyers or rebates to managers of the shops in the same plaza. Disadvantages would have to be losing business to customers who look for a expensive type dining or those focused on a quality or luxury type restaurants, for example most strip mall dines do not have valet parking, and dont take reservations or even provide wines or champagnes.
