When looking for a job it is important to locate businesses that provide strong opportunities to potential employers. There are many potential employers that would result in excellent career opportunities. When seeking a job in management, the type of benefits received and how competitive the salary is will be important considerations but so is the culture of the company. Three potential future employers are Target, Honda, and Google. Each of these employers is successful in the United States and could potentially offer an employee great career opportunity and growth.
The five criteria for a future employer are competitive salary, room for career growth, strong ethics, good benefits package, and social activities. Target is an employer that offers their employees a competitive salary, career mentoring, health insurance, and social activities that are fun and build team cohesiveness. Target has been in business since 1902 which shows the business is reliable and will continue to thrive despite any potential economic hardships. Target also offers the important competitive salary and takes the extra step to develop employees so they will have the opportunity for career growth.
When working for Target, employees are provided with a culture focused on the health and well being of employees. Target offers medical insurance that includes medical, dental, and vision but it also offers wellness programs, maternity support programs, and a nurse-line for employees with health concerns. The career aspects of the company include career development and training. Career development opportunities at Target include career planning, mentoring and coaching, tuition reimbursement, and recognition programs, just to name a few. Target is considered one of the world’s most ethical companies which meet one of the five criteria.
Social opportunities are also important at Target for team building. While it is not a criterion it helps to create a productive and motivated work culture. According to Target (2014) social well-being is about building strong relationships and enjoying life both inside and outside of work. In order to ensure the employees social well being the company has established social networks and has created fun activities that assist in building a strong camaraderie amongst the employees. When there is a strong social environment it can develop into a happy and productive work environment.
Next is Honda. Honda is a Japanese owned company that operates many businesses within the United States. Honda provides a comprehensive employee benefit package when hired. They include paid vacations and paid leave as well as Product Purchase and Lease Programs, education reimbursement, and membership to credit union (Honda, 2014). The company also offers health benefits including healthcare plans, pre-tax spending, retirement plans, and onsite fitness programs. Honda has established strong ethical values as a company but does not offer social or team building activities to employees.
Google is considered one of the most desired places to work. The company offers a fun and cool work environment providing employees with competitive salaries, health benefits, and social activities. The company offers many health benefits including an onsite physician, wellness programs, and complete health benefits for employee and family. They offer a maternity program for both mother and father with paid leave.
Google offers college reimbursement programs to employees and free legal advice when employees face potential legal problems. The goal of Google is to provide support to the employee and the family be offering many programs and amenities to support the well being of the family (Google, 2014). Google strive to be an ethical company. The company takes a strong ethical approach to doing business and encourages employees to become the best people they can be
All three companies provide employees with all types of benefits that meet the five criteria. Putting the three companies in order based on meeting the five criteria would result in Target first, Google second, and Honda third. All three companies provide excellent benefits to their employees including competitive salaries, health benefits, career development, and provide strong ethics. Both Google and Target provide social activities for employees designed to create strong team work and create a productive work environment. Target would be number one because one of the most important things when looking for the best employer is the opportunity for career growth.
Target goes beyond what is required to offer their employees all types of opportunity for career growth. Google, Target, and Honda offer educational reimbursement but Target goes out of their way to ensure employees have an opportunity for career growth but providing many different program and services. Secondly target has a strong reputation for their ethical approach to business. These factors make it the most appealing of the three employers.
