Opportunity to assess your own strengths as a leader, identify areas where you can continue to develop, and create a plan for growth.

Your first step should be to complete two sample self-assessments in the Northouse text. This will help you to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses. See the sample items from the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire Form on page 213 and the Authentic Leadership Self-Assessment Questionnaire on page 280 ….. (provided on page 3).

After you complete the questionnaires, take some time to analyze the results and consider what conclusions you can draw from your self-assessment.

· Ask yourself the following questions:

· What type of leader am I?

· How do I want my colleagues or subordinates to see me?

· How do I want my superiors to see me?

· What are my strengths?

· In what areas do I need to improve? Relational Transparency in Authentic Leadership

· How will I address these improvement needs?

· How will I know if I have become a successful leader?

Once you have thought about your answers to the questions above, you can start to write this assignment.

Your paper should include the most critical lessons you have learned from the reading in both your Northouse and Adler text books, an assessment of your own leadership profile (provided on page 3), and a development plan to enable you to continue to grow as a leader. Specifically, your leadership profile should include the following:

· Tell me what you learned from your reading about these three characteristics and why they are critical to leadership success. Be sure to include your thoughts on why these attributes are particularly important for the leader of a multi-cultural team.

· An example of a situation where you have seen one or more of these attributes successfully demonstrated. Describe the situation and tell me what you learned from it.

· Now focus on yourself. Provide an overview of what you learned from using the questionnaires to evaluate your own strengths and weaknesses.

>>Tell me what you learned about yourself with respect to the three specific GOOD leadership attributes you have identified as important.

>>>Where do you excel and where do you need improvement?

· Then provide a specific set of action steps that you will take to address the leadership areas where you believe need improvement. Please go beyond saying, for example, “I will be a better communicator.” I would like to know what specific actions you will take to become better at these skills. Again, be sure to consider how these skills will help you to be successful in a multi-cultural work environment .

· Tell me how you will know that you have been successful. What will indicate success? What will happen that will tell you that your improvement actions have increased your leadership abilities?

· Finally, provide a description of how your success in improving your leadership abilities will position you for success in your career. In other words, take the long view here and let me know where you want to go in your career and tell me how becoming a better leader will help you to get there. Again, be sure to stress how you will be better able to lead within a multi-cultural work environment.

REMEMBER:

• Do you completely and thoughtfully address each one of the bullets identified above? Remember, they should serve as a guideline to the development of your response?

• Do you demonstrate that you have read and understood the reading assignments by referring to the material to support your ideas? Remember to cite the material in our text books to show that you understand it and can demonstrate how it is relevant to the ideas discussed in your essay?

· The paper should be 8 double-spaced pages, APA style, and it should include a minimum of three references. You must include at least three references in the text books (Peter G. Northouse & Nancy J. Adler), but you may also use references to other materials as well.

· Use proper grammar and appropriate style. Proofread very carefully.
