Unit IV Assignment

Make your final selection for your paper topic. Create a one-page outline of what you are going to cover in your paper.

Your paper should follow this basic outline, but your outline should detail the specific topics you intend to cover:

I. Case Study Introduction

II. Description of the environmental science behind the Case Study

(For example, a case study on solar power use would include a discussion of how solar power works)

III. Description of general policy issues surrounding the Case Study

IV. Detailed description and analysis of additional research on Case Study

V. Conclusion

The document will be worth 5% of your final grade for this unit, so be sure to turn in this assignment by the end of Unit IV.

Unit VI Assignment

At this point, you’ve made your final selection for your paper topic and created an outline. Your assignment for Unit VI is to provide an APA-formatted list of potential sources for your research paper. You should provide a list of at least 5 references, not including the textbook. You may add or subtract from this list as you complete your paper. The document will be worth 5% of your final grade for this unit, so be sure to turn in this assignment by the end of Unit VI.

Research Paper

Each chapter of your textbook begins with a Case Study that describes a current, real-life example of the concepts covered in that chapter. For your final paper (due at the end of Unit VIII), you will choose one of these case studies and write a 5-8 page paper that analyzes the case study, discusses the science behind the case, and describes the policy issues surrounding the case. The case studies in the textbook should be used as a “jumping-off point” for your paper. You may use the textbook as a reference, but the majority of your paper must be researched from outside sources.

Your paper should follow this basic outline:

I. Case Study Introduction

II. Description of the environmental science behind the Case Study

(For example, a case study on solar power use would include a discussion of how solar power works.)

III. Description of general policy issues surrounding the Case Study

IV. Detailed description and analysis of additional research on Case Study

V. Conclusion

The paper will be a minimum of 5-8 pages in length, double-spaced, 12 point type, APA Style (title page and reference page are not included in page length). Your paper must be supported by a minimum of 5 outside references from crediblesources (i.e., peer reviewed journal articles, textbooks, internet search, and governmental position statements). Wikipedia is NOT an acceptable reference source for a research paper; it may NOT be used in this course.
